Ok, I need rod and main bearings. I've been checking the board out and this is what I have so far.

TA has extreme duty bearings, but their 3/4 grooved mains are not really recommended for street use. I don't know about the application of their "extreme" rod bearings.

PAE has some 3/4 grooved main bearings as well. Are they also not recommended for street use???:Do No:

The local O'reilly store seems to have a good selection of Federal Mogul bearings (I checked on-line). Should I just walk in and get some, or not take the chance and order from one of the Buick suppliers??

I have a street/strip 455 that I drive pretty hard when I drive it. I need .01 under mains and .02 under rod bearings.

Any suggestions... How much groove? I read that the tri-metal bearings are the way to go..??:Do No:

I think I also saw some grooved rod bearings on the Summit site.

Anyway thanks in advance for any help. :TU:

Hmm, do the vendors have their own casting foundry? Probably not. Since FM has acquired both TRW and Sealed-Power, there are only 1 or 2 other bearing manufacturers; Dana-Clevite and Dana-Vandervell are the only ones that come to mind. Go to the same place everyone gets them.

Tri metal bearings are the best. I usually go with the groovd mains on higher horsepower /rpm set-ups. You don't want grooved rod bearings, not available for the Buick anyway. Jim Burek

    Scott,
The reason I asked that is about a concern for getting the wrong part# for my application. The counter people at the parts stores are about as nutty as squirrel poop. They don't even know anything about Chevys much less Buicks.

Just want to be sure to get the correct bearings for my application.

So Jim, your 3/4 grooved main bearing is not to "hard" for my application like I have read about the TA bearings.

I'm pretty ignorant about bearings, but I am a quick learner. So be patient with me guys.

Even though you may be able to get them from a local 'parts store', I try to get my parts from the folks that support the Buick community.

They are the standard tri-metal bearings. Jim Burek

Thanks Jim, expect an order from me very soon.

Absolutely no offense meant Jim, but are your "solid" motor mounts alot/any different from the ones that Poston has?? I'll probably get those from you as well, but there is a big diff in the prices. Just wondering.

I used to make them for him, but he did like he always does and decided to have them copied. I will make a deal on them.
