county law is 220 HC and 1.20 CO...i hit 355 and 4.39 in my beater ford. it's an 82 with a straight six and a single barrel carb.

would a tuneup be enough to pass, or are those numbers beyond that? i was thinking i'll retard the timing, lean it out as much as possible, up the idle, and ensure the cat is very hot when i test. oil and plug change, too.

if that doesn't work, what about the old bottle of alcohol in the gas tank trick? will it muck things up?

    David,

Rubbing alchohol works great and is cheap too. Buy a bunch and dump it all in. Make sure your not too full of fuel first. Then set you idle between 1,000-1,100 RPM, or whatever is max. allowable. Make sure to get her good and warm before dipping into the emission station.

    Hope this helps.:)

sounds like a plan...i just bought the oil, filter and plugs, i'll change 'em tommorow and do some miscellanious tuning. i'll put the alcohol in for insurance.

the skylark probably puts out five times the emissions, shouldn't they be thanking me for retiring it from daily duties (for the time at least) instead of making me do this? ;)

    dave:
    isopropyl @91% contains 9% water . u can buy 99.99% isopropyl
will probably cost u much more to pass emissions than car is worth .
