I've got an electric choke on a Q-jet. I replaced the coil (round black plastic thing on passenger side). When I adjust it, I cannot get the "throw" to go far enough: when it closes good (when cold) it won't let the idle down when it warms up, when it idles "off choke"(warmed up), it does not close down when cold. I have heard that the replacement coils are not as good as the originals - anyone agree? Do the coils wear out? How can you test one? - Bill
Is this on your GS? I had the same problem on my LeSabre when I put the electric choke coil on it. I couldn't find a happy medium between too rich and too lean. I think I finally played with it enough that I found the sweet spot. It took me a couple weeks to get it right though. They are very sensitive to any adjustments you make. So don't go too far when you make the next adjustment. Try very small movements.
choke Thanks Adam - This is on my 84 'burb. Chevy 350 w/160K The choke spring was replaced about 7 years ago and has never worked like the original one. AND (I hate No VA) I spent 3 hours looking for 10/32 allen screws cause the screw heads stripped out. Home Depot has chased ALL the hardware stores within 20 miles out of town :blast: :blast: :moonu: I might just switch to a manual choke and be done with it! - Bill
