Does anyone know for sure where I can get an electric choke conversion kit for my stock style (divorced) Q Jet? I e mailed Carbs Unlimited and they said they do not have one :(

    Any ideas?

    Hello Larry,

Which one of those would you recommend for a Buick? They are telling me that they do not have one for Buicks with divorced choke.

Ok, I just found a source. Here is the E Mail message:

    Dear Andrew;

    Thanks for contacting us.

Yes, we sell the correct electric choke conversion kit for the 4 barrel Rochester QuadraJet carburetor on the 1972 Buick Skylark. Your cost: $39.95, plus $5.75 shipping. Total: $45.70. Please allow up to 3 weeks for delivery.

To install, simply mount the new choke thermostat assembly on the intake manifold, in place of the old "remote choke" coil. Attach the metal choke rod to the carburetor. Then wire the new choke into a 12-V key on only power source in the fuse box.

To order, or for more information, call us Toll-Free @877-333-3130, or FAX to 818-841-7887. Or use the secure order form on our website, in FAQ's. Simply click on http://www.carbsonly.com/index/faqs.htm and scroll to the order form.

Our Service Center and Showroom in Burbank, CA are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, West Coast Time. We accept all major credit cards, money orders and checks drawn on US banks. It will be a pleasure to serve you.

Can't imagine why a chevy Q-jet would be any different than a Buick Q-jet when it comes to the choke. I'm sure one of those will work. Let us know.

    Ok,

I ordered it, but they told me that it'd be a few weeks. I'll post back when I get it installed.

Reviving a long dead thread but did anyone ever try one of these and how did it work? Short of FI, I'd like mine to be a little better mannered for the first 30 seconds of startup.

Yes, I saw that one in my searches. Can explain and maybe post a picture of your setup? I have Edelbrock heads and have no heat ports so I was wondering how it works? Never understood the electric choke thing.

I originally purchased, cause like you, I have Eddy heads, and no heat ports. In the kit in the link, the black box w/ copper tab senses engine heat to tell the choke whether to be open, closed, or somewhere in between.

Later, I added an Eddy intake that uses the chevy choke assm, so I modded the electric choke so I could continue to use it.

Im sure from the above link you can see how it mounts to a stock intake, but in this one, you can see how its been modded to work on the Eddy intake.

Since I dont use an idle stop solenoid, that is now the power wire for the choke.

Ah, that's the ticket. I just need to make a shim block to go between the intake mounting surface and the electric choke coil. Good to know.

    Thanks
