what a shame that eBay allowed the Body of Christ to be auctioned
and said it did not meet any of their criteria for being a banned auction!
It was not just a host, It was a concecrated host, meaning it Was the Body of Christ! its unbeleivable that someone would even think of doing such a thing. let alone a major corporation letting it happen. I am seriously thinking of boycotting them!
please pray for the persons invloved in this terrible event

    :(

Why would someone want to do this? And what about the buyer - can't they just get to church?

    What is the item number?

the person who auctioned it evidently obtained it at a mass that was done by the pope. Said they went back to communion a second time and saved it! I just cant beleive a good catholic would do something like that! sheesh, whats this world coming to, when people will do anything for a buck! this is a new low!

I did a google search for body of christ ebay and found this article- The guy was not a catholic--just some A**hole trying to make a buck!

    Here is the excerpt

Catholic officials upset over auctioned communion wafer

    Associated Press

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Officials at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sioux City are upset because a Holy Communion wafer that was allegedly blessed by Pope John Paul II during an Oct. 18, 1998, Mass in Rome, was sold on eBay to a Northern California man.

Adding injury to insult, it turned out the seller was in Sloan, a community within the diocese, the Sioux City Journal reported in a copyright story Wednesday.

The item was posted for sale on Saturday, with a $100 minimum bid, a 7-day listing and a "Buy It Now" price of $5,000. By 7 p.m. Monday, it had sold for $2,000, allegedly to a man in California.

Diocese spokesman Jim Wharton said the auction item had been called to their attention on Monday, and the diocese had e-mailed the seller asking that the church be allowed to explain the inappropriateness of selling the Eucharist and ask the seller to remove the item from auction. The e-mail message went unanswered.

Monsignor Roger J. Augustine, administrator of the diocese, said he had planned to ask eBay to remove the item Tuesday, but it had already sold.

"It's not a case of being angry with anybody," Wharton said. "It's a case of sensitivity."

The blessed host, or Holy Eucharist, is the most sacred item in Roman Catholicism. The Rev. Brian Hughes, a Sioux City priest, said the Eucharist is believed to be the actual body of Christ, a sacrament instituted by Jesus at the Last Supper, foreshadowing his sacramental death on the cross. Hughes said its sale should offend believers of any faith.

The seller wrote in the description of the host and several other items offered together in a scrapbook page that "First of all, I AM NOT CATHOLIC AND DO NOT BELIEVE I'M GOING TO HELL FOR SELLING THIS COLLECTIBLE."

The description said the seller acquired the host by going twice for communion.

"I ate one wafer then I went back and got another one to save and he gave me another one, but I did get a very dirty look!" it read.

Offered along with the allegedly consecrated host were a bulletin from the Mass, four stamps and a bottle opener the seller claimed was blessed by the pope because the seller was holding it during the Mass.

"The public auction of such a strong symbol of our faith is highly offensive and disrespectful," Augustine said.

Pope John Paul II proclaimed 2005 to be the Year of the Eucharist to emphasize the importance of the Eucharist to all who profess the Catholic faith.

"We pray the buyer of the Eucharist will do what is proper and take the host to their priest for proper treatment," Augustine said.

According to the Catholic Web site, spiritdaily.com, the host was bought by Bill Osbourne of Cupertino, Calif. It quotes Osbourne as saying, "Any minute I waited, it could have fallen into the hands of a witch or Satanist. That's Jesus in that Host!"

It says Osbourne is a salesman who attends Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara, Calif
