I have a tip to share with all the board members here. Ever have trouble with those pesky window handle clips, and you dont have a removing tool....here is the solution :TU: Use 2 small sized allen wrenches and use one to push on 1 side of the clip and do the same on the other side (make sure its the open end of the clip). I use allen wrenches cause they have the 90 degree bend and all you do is push down on both of them with the short ends towards you. This works 100 percent of the time, and it dosent scratch up your door pannel cause the allen wrenches are so small. Hopes this tip helps you guys out when your restoring you ride over the winter :TU: Larry
thank you... i would have never thought of that...i've been putting off changing my knobless window crank because of the difficulty in getting that clip out... :beer scott
heck I just take some welding wire (coat hanger) bend a hook in the end of it put it in the middle of the clip and pull and it pops right out.
Necessity is the mother of invention. I like all those tricks to get them off better than what I came up with in a pinch :TU: What I used was an open end wrench. I don't recall what size works, but, if you can push the door panel in (towards the outside of the car) you can get the wrench in there and push that clip off. Though, since then I did buy the appropriate tool.
I agree with Dale...the 5 bucks you spend on the tool makes it the easiest...although I did used to struggle with the above and anything else I could try to dream up to get those pesky things out. Buy the tool.
door handle clips Hey guys: If you don't put those silly springs behind the door panel there is no problem getting the clip off. Ken:grin:
The tool works great and I have both styles.....BUT the problem that I run into is scratching the hell out of the vynal door panel :af: . The 2 allen wrench trick is great because you can get to the clip with ease, and not a single scratch will be put on the door panel...although I would also like to try the coat hanger trick too :Brow: .....just telling you guys what I have experienced, and passing the friendly info along :TU: Larry
I have a small piece of sheet metal that I use and make a very small 90 degree angle at the tip. The tip ends up being about 1/8" long....hook it and it pops right out. No scratchies either. I used to use a screwdriver and lots of patience...and lots of scratches.
someone on the board posted once that slipping a shop towel behind the crank and pulling it back and forth around a couple times worked..... i tried it and it worked excellent, far better than any of my tools. i pitched th tools. ....
clip I like the idea of the shop towel. I have one clip on the back panel that I have put off till I am forced by gunpoint to take off. I will let you guys know the outcome. Ken:blast: :blast: :blast:
I've never done it, but my brother does it with the shop towel...Real nice and quick and doesn't scratch the door up...
