WOW is this stuff pricey. and only 5ounces per can! gone is the buy three pay 9.99 each deal. Now replaced by the -whoopee- 10% off sale. $11.50ish per can. Unless you buy a case of 12, then you pay about $10 each. The stuff must be made with real gold flakes, or that special Unobtanium mist that I have been reading about. Does anyone have a better deal on this stuff? Or is Eastwood it? It just plain hurts to spend that much on that little. otherwise - the stuff is great!
The best thing to do is to buy in when they have 10% off sale and free shipping .. Sign up for there free email notices and it will keep you updated on sales they promote..
You'd actually consider painting a carb? They were plated originally. Probably because paint doesn't last...
Yeah Ken, I noticed the Eastwood deals were great toward the end of 2008, and now they are lame. I bought the prepaid shipping plan, so it irks me when they offer free shipping and a lame discount. Have you thought about Copy Cad plating? Check this system out: http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/zinc.htm There has to be a break even point between paint and "plate". I can't justify it for myself - BUT if someone like YOU were to buy a big batch and offer the service (blast and plate) for a reasonable price, you could make out pretty good - possibly.
Eastwood must be having tough times like everyone else. I noticed they werent even in attendance at Spring Carlisle swap. Thus my shortage. I had been hoping to score a few cans there "cheap". I have considered the plating systems, and have them in mind for a future investment. Like you said, its a question of when it becomes worth it. Thanks for the link, I put it in my faves.
If you not in a hurry I have a local guy that recolors the carbs. It about 75 to do if you take the carb apart.
Thanks Ed, I'll keep that in mind. I am in no rush, and I'm still debating whether to just go ahead and paint it. I'm doing more of a resto-mod, so originality is not an issue.
I got an email at the beginning of the year from Eastwood announceing that are not attending any shows this year, but not out of the plans for the future... I bought a bunch of stuff at Hershey in Nov.08 and they didnt offer any discount what so ever, there answer was your saving the shipping cost..
