E85 as a "fuel additive"

Phil It really *is* a 350...

I've been researching the E85 threads and was considering a few different things, like converting my Astro van to E85, but considering the price/performance option, I'm thinking i'm probably better off with 87 octane in the van since it's really not a high compression performance engine.

Then I had a thought about supplimenting the 93 octane (10% ethanol) fuel I normally run in my Skylark with a couple three gallons of 110 octane E85 per tank.

Since E85 is a higher octane fuel, I'm wondering if I'll see any performance increase with the 10.25:1 compression. My Q-Jet already runs a lttle rich on the secondaries so I'm also thinking the E85 may actually "lean" out the richness simply because it takes more E85 to make power than gas.

I then find myself wondering if it makes sense that I can actually lean my fuel mixture using E85 and at the same time increase octane rating. Does that make sense?

Or is it way to late at night (or early in the morning) to be considering these things...? :idea2:

( FYI - I think "a couple three" comes from my Pennsylvania roots... :TU: )

I've also thought about mixing some E85 into my DD gas tank (A gallon or so), but just for cleaning the ethanol provides. From what I remember reading about it you have to add a lot more, probably more than your carb already provides.

If I remember right theturboforums.com had a lot of info on it.
