I've had the 1990 Dodge Daytona running for a while, changed oil, filters, etc.

It still smokes (oil) a bit when I start it (or let it idle for 30 minutes), but stops after driving it. I've put in 20w50 and some engine treatment. Will change oil again soon.

Its time for an E-check. I know its all computerized, but are some places better than others? I'm in the Cleveland area.

Also, what sort of dry-gas is good to mix in; Isopropyl, Ethynol or Methynol?

I've never heard of "E-check". Do they do a computer diagnosis or something?

It's the state's way of getting another $30 from everybody that drive's every two years. You take your car to one of their privately owned stations (people bid on them because they are such cash cows $$$$$) and they give your car the tail pipe sniff test.

There have been lots of problems, including people there taking money to pass your car when it shouldn't, etc.

I think your best bet if your worried about not passing is to go to AutoZone and get a can of "E-check or E-Pass". I'm not sure what it's called, but it's supposed to help you pass the test. Also I've heard that running the car at highway speeds for at least 5 minutes before you go will clean things up also.

Finally got some opinions - Isopropyl alcohol (but not "rubbing" alcohol as it contains more water than the car stuff). So I put half a gallon into an eigth tank; probably around 30%.. Luckily the car only smokes when started, so I passed - by a wide margin.

The gas cap passed too (the center in Elyria is notorious for failing gas caps - even new ones).

Now I can get plates for this free car, and will actually put some money into the thing. Plus my last tank gave me 29 mpg. Cool.
