A buddy dynoed his iron 494, Stage 2 SE, 608S, 1150 Dom today.

Good hp numbers that were still climbing but I say oil pressure is tooo low. 57 at 6500? I like to see 80psi at 6500. It's a Chevy guy dynoing it and he says plenty of pressure. I say sure for a Chevy or even TA alum block but not an iron block. It is a belt driven Peterson external oil pump setup. Does that allow you to run less pressure?

Turned the pressure up but I say still dangerously low. 67psi at 6600. Even better HP numbers.....

Ported but don't know numbers. Adjuster is maxed out.

I have the same pump and if anything I had to much pressure. had to add a ext regulator in line to keep it under 100 PSI at full RPM

My 505 lives fine with 55-60 psi crossing the finish line at 7000.

TA alum block right, Gary? I can see that with priority oiling in the new block.

You guys running the Peterson standard or high volume pumps?

I believe Gary has a 560 al. The 505 was probably his trusty iron engine .

The torque numbers on that dyno sheet are odd ..they peak high and aren't as high as I'd expect..it looks like the peaks to HP are so close together in rpm ,maybe the power was going to peak even higher ?
I have seen this before when the engine is over cammed but under headed so to speak ..great HP numbers don't get me wrong

Yeah I thought peak torque would be in high 4000rpm

BTW this motor does not feed oil to the rear. Only through enlarged oil pressure sending area. I could see with dual feed getting away with lower pressure.
Gary, your 505 was dual feed?

No. My 505 was a stock block.

They must be running a girdle with those kind of numbers, yes? Wow!

    Rear oil line?

No girdle just partial block fill. Internal balance. If it was mine I would use Poston pan.

What lifters does it have in it? I suspect that he does not have the TA 1410 or equivalent high oil band lifters, and it's hemoraging oil out the lifter bores.

TA lifters is all I know...
Jim, would you race it with that oil pressure? I would be puckered at 140+ thru the traps.....both my cars see 80 thru the traps when I get a chance to look.

I don't see why take a chance at lower pressure....what is it maybe 5hp that gets eaten but 15lbs more pressure? Plus a motor gets runs on it pressure may go down some....never going higher unless heavier oil used.
I built a motor 30 years ago with .003 on mains and rods and loose Jahns 11-1 piston to wall (rattled for a minute on startup/piston slap). Ran a LONG time but was a 20W-50 motor to get the pressure I wanted.

What oil pan set up? Windage tray? To low of pressure or needs to somewhat stay rising as RPMs increase
I had 70+ from 3500 until 5600 then it would slightly drop. Chris Skaling advised to tear it down and look into it.
So we tore the motor back down, added a windage tray and now we have 85-90 all the way up to 6800.
