I am about to change my interior color using SEM plastic and vinyl coating. But what do you need for the metal dash and A-pillar post cover, and other metal interior pieces. I want it to match as close as possible.

I am going from all sandlewood to all black.

    Thanks

I did my Nova years ago. I sprayed the seats first and waited a couple of days to see how they would look. And then I find a black spray can paint that matched. Trial and error. And clean the seats good before you spray. I had to repaint the drivers seat twice :af: . Just the seat bottom on the left side of your leg. That's were most seats wear the most anyway. Passenger seat no problem, since GF rode about once a month. Maybe someone else can ofter a suggestion to this.

I would take the seats apart and scrub them with simple green and water, use a tooth brush to get around the cording. After they are dry I would wipe them down with denatured alchohol to remove any grease, let dry and shoot them. Hard plastic parts use a special primer, check your local auto paint supplier. I have an old can it was called Poly Ty Coat. For the steel try Krylon semi gloss black, very easy to use. Good luck Steve

For the lower dash metal you may want a paint with a bit more gloss than the SEM Landau Black. A Semi-gloss would work for the lower dash.

You can use the SEM Landau Black for the textured metal filler piece on each side of the rear seatback.

Remember--The SEM will likely show EVERY DEFECT in the underlying metal. The stuff is very, very thin and doesn't really have any "filliing" properties. This is so it won't fill in all the grain/texture you have on plastics and metals.

So..if you do shoot SEM on metal pieces make sure they are super smooth...sanding scratches, etc will easily show up in the top coat of SEM.

This isn't a problem on the rear metal fillers as those are already textured like the kickpanels, etc. You shouldn't be sanding those pieces anyway.

For the metal at the top of the dash a semiflat would probably be better...you don't want anything too shiny up there. Pure Flat is probably "too flat" and will be harder to clean.

I know you are using SEM products, but I have had excellent results with Dupli-color's Vinyl & Fabric dye, it adheres to metal equally well if you are concerned about color matching. :TU:

For black on metal you could use almost hardware store black paint. Satin for most areas but use flat as the factory directed for upper dash and around rear windshield or it will glare off the glass and you will hate yourself.
