I keep reading that steering columns are basically interchangeable between most 71-76 GM "big cars". I'm hoping to convert my 71 Riv to floor-shift, so I'm looking for a compatible floor-shift (and tilt) column; but I think the only floor-shift "big car" of the day was the Riviera, yes? So I guess my question is, would a 74-76 Riv floor-shift column work in a 71? Thanks, V8Buick.

Possibly some/ most parts would fit, but 74-76 floor shift column parts (cars) are harder to come by then 71/72 most of column its self is same for floor/column shift - floor shifter just has a cable down to trans - the column linkage is still active and can be turned by hand if the cable breaks and the linkage is used for the dash indicator. - You need to get deep into the parts books and the illustrations to check specific part numbers to know what you need and which years are the same.

note -you get access to the online ones when you register your riv and get full function (searchable) PDF's as part of the download catch up hen your members page is completed upto the min.

and Yes Riviera was the only one in its class that offered a floor shifter (Eldorado and Tornado dropped it in 71) - even outside GM --meaning Lincoln and Ford (Thunderbird) and Chrysler personnel luxury cars didn't have console shift in 71.
