Duane, What did they do to the rear wheel wells? It might have been fairly easy to put back "right" with a donor frame had they not messed with those.:blast: Personally, I'd have to have some sort of roof, I don't want to be seen riding in a clown car unless, of course, I'm on the way to a child's birthday party.
Two random thoughts ... 1. The '68-'69 Skylark bodies are famous (or dubious) for their strong "sweep lines" running down the sides from front-to-rear ... I thought I'd call this one a "weep" line ..., and, 2. Driveshaft? I don't need no stinkin' driveshaft ...
The pictures with the side pipes look like they were taken back east in the 70's. Sort of an AMXGS look...
The car behind that castrated '69 GS in that photo looks to be a Dodge Lancer ... not a Mopar guy, but I think it is a late '80's or early '90's shot. This is just not right. Those little "door-lettes" have the vent windows ... I thought those were last used in '68? This thing is totally a Shriner's parade car type of thing ... I'd market to them.
I've been told that the vent window was also on the 69 post cars, but not the coupes. On 68s they were on all of them.
It looks like they cut the middle section out of the car and "slid" the entire rear clip forward. Then they cut the middle out of a pair of 68 doors, welded the two pieces together, and tried to "flub" the body lines back in. The doors look like they end at the rear of the vent windows, so the doors probably have no glass in them, with the rear quarter windows sealing against the vent windows. (That's the reason the doors are so short, they couldn't figure out how to make the side glass work any other way.) The more I thought about it the car probably does have a roof. They would have cut the pieces above the door openings out and re-attached the header bow. That would have been easy. I think what you are seeing regarding the rear quarters is the rust/rot all the way around. The sad thing is all the body lines look way out of scale. That's the problem with doing a custom car. If you're not careful you end up with a car that looks horrible but has tons of time in it. That's why I pieced together some pics before I built the "X-Camino", I wanted to make sure it looked good before I put any time into actually building it. Duane
... probably the result of one, two, or ten too many 12-packs. Give a guy a cutting torch and suddenly he is a hero ... in his own mind. It's like a baaaad haircut ..., no, wait, the worst haircut ... and you have to live with it. Man, I have to stop this. Well, if you could find a way to mount a mower blade on the bottom, then it might be the fastest mower around ...and it would fit in the shed.:eek2:
Just a wild guess, but for $17,500 firm I'll bet the guy dies with it. Im fact, I hope he does. I hate think there is another person on the planet that would want that car.
Can't believe anyone would do that to a car, especially a 4 speed GS. The only value in that car is in the $ speed & 455!
