So, My driver side armrest was TOAST! Not sure why, it is only 53 years old this month. So, since I had to put front seat covers on my car, I saved some of the correct Madrid Grain fabric from one of my seat bottoms. (I still have the seat backs, and one aftermarket bottom I am bringing to Bowling Green) Not the professional job Duane would do, but should suffice until I find that very nice driver side arm rest.
I like it! In retrospect, I wish I'd kept my OEM covers when I had my seats redone. My driver's side armrest needed to be done as well but George Dwyer was nice enough to hook me up with one. Still, though, I'd have definitely given this a shot, as I derive much pleasure from reusing original stuff. Call me crazy but....
Excellent idea. This is very timely as I am in the midst of recovering my seats now and was contemplating what I could do with my old covers.
In case anyone reading this thread is redoing a white '70 Bucket seat interior, I'm looking for used cover (hoping someone has a good pass side) or pref. a bucket seat w/cover & just trade for mine.
This kind of innovation keeps a man from having 100k invested in their car. These are the kind of fixes I look for. You probably saved yourself a couple hundred bucks had you dropped it off at an upholstery shop.
“This kind of innovation keeps a man from having 100k invested in their car.” That is exactly what I have been saying for years. In a lot of instances if you spend a little bit of time cleaning up a part, re painting it, etc., you end up with the same job as buying a new piece, and sometimes it’s even better. I guess which way you go, time vs money, all depends on your situation. I always had more time then money, plus if I have a little “sweat equity” in something it means more to me. Duane
