The cry goes out for help/advice! Anyone!

Ok here goes, My '69 convertible had a good dent in the drivers door. I had asked if anyone had a '69 convertible door, and was told to get a '69 hardtop door....they are the same. :puzzled:

I had a bare, rust free door sent in from Texas to Atlanta. Swaped my glass, hinges, locks, etc. It shuts very pretty, but the flow from top of door to qtr panel is way off. The swoopy crease in the middle flows exact from one to another, bottom of door is ok also. :Dou:

I have seen '69 GS hardtops with a chrome strip on top of the door :Do No:

It is hard to see with the cherry black paint, but I think you can get the idea. It looks worse in person. The door is straight from front to back, so I do not believe it is bent.

I need schooling on doors :Smarty: Anyone with a GS convertible door?

From just those two pictures I would guess that the door is way off adjustment.
How is the spacing at the top by the fender compared to the bottom?
How is the spacing along the bottom of the door?
It might just be a case of getting everything aligned and spaced correctly.

Try loosening the bolts on the door to hing and rotating the door top to bottom and it should help. The door looks like it is out of alignment and should fit.

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

And it's hard to tell for sure, but the gap on the back looks too tight. Looks like it probably needs to go forward a little and tilted upward. Unfortunately it's very seldom that you can swap doors without fully adjusting the hinges...seems everything is just a little different...

Check for hinge pin wear. Since you will have the doors off, I would suggest you install hinge pit kits on all hinges. You may also be able to adjust the door higher with the striker post.

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

    Definitely...

Tom, I would definitely check the hinge pins like George said. You can buy hinge pins at any parts store. Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, Napa, anywhere. They all carry them. This should help to solve the 'droop'. Now if they only made something like this for my big ol' belly!!!

    I have an idea,
Could the replacement door have been dented/pushed downward at the back corner, where the door meets the quarter? From the pics it kind of looks that way to me. There are other dents in it, so I don't figure it had an easy life. I have seen this same thing in other doors that have been dropped.

All 69 buick A-body doors should be the same whether they are from a coupe or conv.

    Hey Duane,

I had thought that at first also (that the back lip of the HT door was bent down), but the lip is straight all the way down the door.

Did you happen to see the other pictures? There are some pictures further down in the post that I used a shape tool to make a pattern off the GS convertible door and took it over to the hardtop door and compared the difference or gap. The last two pictures, shows the gap between the middle of the door, and the gap at the front top of the door.

If I get the numbers off the doors, will this help solve the mystery?

    Thanks so much.

I have no listing for body panel numbers. They would have to come from guys that have the parts books.

    Here are two other thoughts,
Could the door have come from a 68, rather then a 69 car?
OR could the replacement door have a skin put on that was for a 2-door post model? They are different then coupe/conv skins.

    From the parts Book:

    '68 30-4000 (2Dr HT & Conv) 8731572 RH
    '68 30-4000 (2Dr HT & Conv) 8731573 LH

    '69 3437-3537-4437-67-4637-67 8716924 RH
    '69 3437-3537-4437-67-4637-67 8716925 RH

The numbers appear to be different, for what it's woth.

The top of the door looks like it may have been bent in shipping along the body line above the door handle. I have personally put hard top doors on a 69 convertible with no problems. Compare your countour guage to the right door.
