I see that Offy offers to intakes for the 401 / 425. I am consideriong buying their item number TA5191 as they tell me it is 3/8" shorther than the other and enables us to use it with no hood clearance problems.

I have a 61 Invicta 2 door bubbletop that I would like to convert to a dual-quad set up but I am fearful that I will run into problems. They told me that it would work but it is tight and that I could use Edelbrock carbs but not Holleys. I figure that by the time I buy the intake, carbs, linkage, and air cleaner I will be between $1500-2000 and I would hate to learn after all that that it won't fit under the hood.

Anybody out there have any thoughts?

Tim there is a Buick 2X4 manifold with two Carter carbs on Ebay for a buy it now of 600.00. Item # 2453069565
This might be a better place to start. If things don't work out at least the Buick manifold has resale value way beyond what an Offy will ever bring.

you can get the offy for $320 from summit racing on special order but itll take a while i had to wait a while for mine almost like a month but it was the cheapest price i found then i got it plated for like 150 and it looks beutiful for the carb i think you can get a reconditioned set of edelbrocks for about 350-425 or so i think? dont remember just gotta look around for the things you need...

I used a stock manifold with two aftermarket carter afbs. $250. each. Got lucky and bought my manifold for $200 out of a garage in Houston, Tx....looks great,...runs awesome.

thanks alot for th quick reply guys and your input is excellent. I saw the intake and carbs on e-bay.

My question remains - would the offy fit under the stock hood?

I bought an intake and carbs off e-bay already - 600 bucks

Carbs are junk!!!! I had intake shotblasted as I wante to have it powder coated another color. I picked it up yesterday. All kinds of surface issues under all the powder coating!!! Looks like someone did a poor job trying to patch a faulty intake

    Bottom line - I got fu$#@!!

If I wanted to be an asshole like alot of these other people I cold have the intake powder coated and re-sell it on e-bay, etc but I won't do that:af:

    Hood Clearance

There is a shop in Rapid City, SD, (The Speed Center) that sells stamped steel hood scoops that would solve the clearance problem. They sell two Chevy Z28 windshield entry style, one stock height - one 2 to 3 inches higher and one similar to early front enty Pontiac Super Duty scoops (can you say nostalgia look?). Their adds are in the back of most Hot Rod/Car Craft magazines. "Steel is Real" headline. I think one would look very nice on my 65 GS dual quad (I have a spare hood and I can put a K&N air cleaner on and make it ram air at the same time). Tell 'em Joe Jag sent ya!:Brow:

I bought an Edelbrock dual quad intake from a Hemmings ad. Put it on my brothers 66 Riv with 2 new carbs. Runs better than the stock intake and clears the hood just enough. Also run Edelbrocks dual 4 breather and it looks great!!! Not very familiar with Invictas, but Riv hoods are pretty close.

From information reported on the Nailhead group, the Offy dual quad is the worst performer of the 3 tried. Best is the B262 from Edelbrock and next is the factory cast iron manifold. Factory manifold also gives the best hood clearance.

    Missed One !

    the 1966 Quadrajet manifold, then
This is according to Steve Magnotty who is the head porter for Bob Quigg (of fastest stock bodied Nailhead fame) . Steve also regularly ports and flows Nailhead manifolds.

    :( Tim,
Sorry to hear about your misadventures on ebay, that really sucks! I wouldn't worry too much about hood clearance, you can find a lot of different air cleaners that should help you out. I logged on TA's website, found the Offewnhauser intake but no price. I just scored a 66 q-jet intake, so that is probably the path I'll take for now. Hard to beat those 2 fours for underhood sex appeal though! Take Care, Tim

Tim, let me toss a idea to You . A LOT of years ago I was running a 64 lark at the drag strip. I need clearance for a ram air set up and slicks ect. I studied the situation for a long time and finally solved the problem by putting 1 in. spacers between the frame and the body. worked very well ,didnt affect the handeling any and gave me the clearance that i needed. It wasnt hard to do. and just took one day to finished. when I got to the tech inspection, the official made about 10 trips around the car and kept saying,"somethings odd" Doc

Now that is out-of-the-box thinking. I love to read these kind of unconventional tid-bits to solve problems.
