Offy says to use Edelbrock or Carter carbs. But why couldnt you put road demon jrs on an offy intake????? The 305 in my regal has a Edelbrock intake, i had a road demon jr carb and switched to edelbrock because of the small leak, and i didnt have time to order another one, so i got the edelbrock to my local auto zone. But if the road demon fits on edelbrock, and edelbrock carb fits on edelbrock intake, coulnt the road demon fit on the offy intake? Has anyone used these demon jr carbs on offy dual quad intake? Thanks, Don
my guess would be the modular style fuel bowls would run into each other but I know there has been a guy has run twin Holley 750's so it might be possible with some linkage trickery.
AFB's vs Demons Don, The stock 2x4 Buick Nailhead manifold does not flow all that well with the AFB's, any more carb would probably be overkill. Take a look at your exhaust ports in the heads, you'll understand. Some talk on the boards has concluded that the 2x4 carb set up has the sex appeal, but the 66 only q-jet intake performs just as well as the dual quads and may have a slight edge in fuel economy. All that being said, dual quads look good, the Q jet set up runs as well, what statement do you want to make? Which ever way you go, I'm sure it will work for you! :TU: Tim
The Demon or Holley carbs won't fit because of the carb spacing and the way the fuel bowls hang of the front and rear of the Holley style carbs. If you want to see a stock setup, come by and see me sometime--my '65 GS has a stock 2-4's setup on it.
Road Demon Jrs I was talking about Road Demon Jr Carbs, which are considerably shorter than the holley or the demon.
Road Demon Jrs. Here they are. http://www.barrygrant.com/demon/default.aspx?page=6 When i was putting carbs on my 305 i had a road demon jr and it sounded so good, it was great, then when i had to send it back i got a edelbrock and i could tell the difference. Road demon jrs are much better. But i guess im gonna have to settle for edelbrock. I just dont know. Im gonna call them tonight and see what they say. Don :3gears:
Does the offenhauser intake have the wider carb flange bolt pattern? If not, those carbs won't even bolt up. The factory 2-4's intake has the narrower AFB bolt pattern (some Holley's have both patterns on them or extra material to drill them if you want). I can see from the picture of the carbs that the Jrs. don't even have material to drill those holes if you wanted. Even if the intake has the wider bolt pattern, it will be extremely close if they do fit.
dual demon's Don, I can think of two options: (1)mount the carbs sideways or (2)have the manifold holes bored offset, no one will know once the carbs are mounted. Where there's a will there's a way!
Carbs Well now my plan is to use the stock intake. Some people say using stock intake and AFB works best. So i am now looking for a NEW AFB carb. does anyone know where to get them for the nailhead with use of stock intake. Thanks, Don
You can buy them new from Jegs or Summit. The new AFB's have provisions for both mounting bolt patterns. Keep in mind though that the new ones have the larger air cleaner flange size (like a Holley or quadrajet), so the factory 2-4's air cleaner will not fit.
I'm not so sure about that unless the Edlebrocks still have the small air cleaner flange because mine had a pair of Edlebrock Performer 500's on it and it used the factory air cleaner base.
CArbs well thanks you guys maybe ill get it straight. I just bought my control arms from summit and poston and im gonna start work on the regal, to get her ready for that motor. Gotta take that chevy motor out, take the fenders, hood and front clip off take the wheels off and set or stands. Cant wait :3gears: . , Don
425 Regal, I have good news for you, YES you can install 2 BG Road Demon Jr. 625CFM carbs on a Offy intake. Here are pictures of my 401 with it done. :Brow: Regards, Glenn
I'm using a pair of 500 cfm Carter AFB competition series that I bought around....1982....they have the larger 5-1/8" dia opening. I'm using some 1" spacers to use the stock air cleaner....I'll post pics later!
Gary, The part number is #6282010V which is the 625CFM units. They are also available in 525cfm and 725cfm models. You will also need (2) Transdapt plates #2090 which are available @ Summit for $14.75 each. Glenn
Riviera Yesterday i took the 600 edelbrock carb off my 305chevy and put it on my 425. The first time i had started her in a while, and she sounded so good and crisp. I ran her down the road for a little while, but my wife wanted to go to town, so didnt get to run er long, but here shortly im gonna start er up and go down the road. Now that i know the road demon jr will work, im gonna buy that and the finned valve covers, and spark plug wire covers, and the whole dress up kit, msd distributor, and everything else i need. Shes gonna be so purdy settin in the regal :Brow: . Edelbrock has a 800 avs thunder series carb. Whats your guys opinion, should i go with the demon jr or edelbrock? Thanks Don
