Dual Quad carb sizes?

    Hi all,

I am toying around the idea of getting a dual quad manifold setup for my 65 skylark, I am running a 64 401 not real sure it has a cam in it so I can only assume it is stock, currently running a 750 carter

Would a stock set-up be too much CFM for it?

I was also debating as the car is not a show car or correct in most regards would I be better off going the aftermarket manifold and carb route as most stockers seem to be on the pricey side for buying a set of rebuildable carbs

If I do go aftermarket which would Eelco be best for a fairly stock engine and if so what carb size would be best

Thanks for any pointers and if someone has a manifold set-up they would like to part with or come across a lead please send it my way

    Thanks again,
    Jim

First things first, what are you trying to accomplish? If keeping stock bottom end and cam, which is perfectly fine. The cam in an oringinal 425/401 were almost identical for a 4bbl. or dual quad setup. The diffence was in the timing aka. the distributor was setup with more curve I believe. I know someone else will chime in on that. The Offenhauser dual quad is the worse flowing of the manifolds. And just as a note, nailhead engines love lots of CFM's. Running 2- 750's on a dual quad is quite comfortable, except for the fuel bill. Others will further this discussion for you.

I run 2 600 on mine but I have a nice size cam too. the 2 4 cam had alittle more lift than the single 4bbl cam. so if your not gonna change the cam I'd go wit small carbs.

Eelco is better than stock i run it with 2 600cfm. you will lose some bottom end but will pull more mid and upper rpms. 750cfm will hurt low end even more.

I am wondering what the stock size for carbs on the 66 Riviera are. I am running a 700 Holley double pumper on mine and it seems too small. What are the stock cfm ratings on the q-jet for this year? I'm assuming that the dual quad setup from the factory was two 600's?

i was running an air cleaner like wkillgs on my eelco but a 1/2 inch higher had to machine the intake 1/4 inch for the hood. then i put a scoop on and sealed it . then ran two 6.25x3.25 air cleaners had to lean the carbs which is funny with fresh air it should make it richer if anything. went to a dyno shop first run with air cleaners than one run with out picked up 17hp and 20 pounds of torque. kn filters said one round or oval is better than 2 little ones that sit so close together. something to think about.

    Hi Guys,

Marty here. If you think you will have a hood clearance issue; let me know. I do offer the EB62 1/2 shorter.
