    nice!

If you search the May 8th picnic you will see a nice set up by Walt Kilgus. He made the base and used a F*rd Cobra repro top, looks fantastic with the valve covers!

Don't have any pics yet,..I bought the O'brians Trucker dual quad air cleaner. Got it through Larry Daisey of Ranch Riviera. Polished alumininum with deep fins. Looks awesome. Check out buickstreet.com and look at the article "building a better nailhead" they used the same one. You would not be disappointed. Hope this helps.

    Hmmmmm....maybe I started something?:Brow:

But yes, repos are available from many Ford vendors. You can buy the lid only....about $60. A complete unit will be about $115, but I have no idea if the carb spacing is the same. I made my own base from .125" aluminum. Hood clearance is tight on a '66, so position it back as far as possible...

Seems like someone named O'Brien Truckers or something like that makes one, finned on top that matches the fins on the valve covers. They also make a finned valley cover, again the fins match the valve covers, but you have to grind clearance if you run a factory manifold with heat crossover intact. Valley cover fins clear if you take a die grinder to the heat crossover setup ala Gessler. They also make spark plug wire covers, again finned to match the valve covers. This stuff is available at vintagespeed.com, usually found on Rods and Kustoms with a Nailhead installation.

Check your carb spacing before ordering a base!....I'm measuring 7-7/8" on my nailhead, The Ford base is listed as 8-5/8"....
    I'll bet K&N elements are available....as it's a stock Ford application....10"x21".
I listed the 'stang website just to show what is available. You could probably find a better price on e-bay....a search under 'cobra air cleaner' returned a few items.

I have a question for John K,..I bought a finned valley pan from mooneyes. Looks great,.but my first reaction was concern about the fins being too tall. I am using a stock 2x4 manifold. What is the heat crossover that you are speaking of? If it doesn't clear, what should I do?

There are two holes on each head, between the two center intake ports, that run down into the exhaust ports. Since there are two heads, those four holes feed hot exhaust gas to a chamber under the carb, and to a pair of holes under the carb. This is what is meant by the exhaust crossover. That is what the big freeze plug on the underside of the intake is all about. There's no antifreeze in there, just hot exhaust. Because the passageways and chamber are cast on the bottom of the intake, they are the part of the intake that hits the fins on aftermarket valley covers. You can either 1) grind the fins down where the crossover passages hit, or 2) grind the passages off the bottom of the intake and weld the holes closed on the heads. Greg Gessler used to have pics of this on his website, gesslerheadporting.com, but I just looked and they're gone. Maybe he'll see this and post a pic of the "light weight" option.

I used aftemarket air cleaners with flat tops and had a special polyester heat resistant decal made up just for me. See the picture. If you like it, let me know. I had a couple of extra sets made up to help defray the high cost of making the original die. If the picture doesn't download on the reply. Check out the following link which also contains a picture of the engine and air cleaners

Harle i saw those at the Nats and they caught my eye, that guy had a few dual quad stuff for sale.

i do not like how the stock air cleaner silences the sound of those 8bbls, you should be sounding sweet now.
