Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone out there has converted from the fan to dual electric fans? I am thinking of doing that for 2 reasons.
1- its a cleaner look and offers more room
2- Its quieter and more efficient ( doesn't take any horsepower/drag on motor and you aren't forced to hear the whoosh of the fan engaging....I'd rather hear the intake/exhaust.

Well, I want to know if ya'll think its a good idea or not?

    thanks,
    kelly:)

    YES!!!
I have been doing this for years and love it! It makes the engine a lot more responsive and no overheating problems.
I have been using the fans out of the midsized GM cars. They come with a shroud and mounting feet. Just cut them so the can be mounted as close to eachother as possible and mount the feet to the top and bottom radiator support.
    Good luck.

    Hey Mike,
Do you have any pictures you can share? I was thinking of doing away with my fan and going with the electric fans........I have a 66 401......and was afraid to ask that question:( ..........And how did you wire it up?........It seems to be a "COOL" idea....:bglasses:
Thanks for any info on this,
    Don

I don't have any pictures of the setup but I will try to get some in the near future.
I found a switch that screws into the manifold that comes out of a older VW that turns on at 190 and off at 175 that you can pick up at any parts store for about $20. I wire this into a relay that I pickup at any junkyard and forget about it.
I will try to get the part number of the switch and some pictures this week.

Can we get a moderator to move this thread to 400/430/455 or other appropriate forum? Looks like good info that others might use (me for instance).

    Thanks.

Here is a picture of the first setup I did. It isn't pretty but you can get an idea of how it works.

    Hey Mike,

How large are the fans in diameter?
I have 2 electric 12" fans mounted in a shroud, they blow pretty well, but I have not installed it yet so I don't know if they work properly..
I want to use them on my 455 Riv.

    Thanks,

    Bram

I don't have a measurement on the fans I just took them out of a midsized GM front wheel drive car.

The part number for the switch is TS87. It can be bought at any Car Quest parts store for around $23.

I hope this helps some people.
