YOU WILL HAVE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK.... Back in the ''good ole days'' we would take a solid lifter and put it in place..... and then ck the clearances..... not many got checked in those days... but the good shops did... most places just threw them together....:idea2: You could have a machine shop or a buddy that works in a machine shop,,, to make up a dummy lifter , by measuring one of your hydrolic ones or just take one of your old ones apart and fill it with something like a super strong spring or solid rod or epoxy and then use it.... I know:idea2: , BBS or bird shot from a shot gun shell... just thought of that one.... anything to keep the lifter from collapsing under light pressure ... you will be using light springs any way t0 take your measurments.....

Here's how I made an adjustable one FOR CHECKING PURPOSES ONLY....epoxied a nut inside an old lifter. Then cut and slotted the end on some threaded rod, put the pushrod seat and clip back in place.
If I remember correctly (don't count on it!) the seat should be depressed about 0.020" below the retaining clip for proper preload.

If you are way off, you'll have to get different pushrods. Smith Brothers are a well-known manufacturer. They even have adjustable pushrods.
