Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to swap out my front drum brakes for a set of stock discs? Will any gm spindle and disc work from that era? I know I have to upgrade the booster and hoses but is there anything that needs to be altered in the front suspension?

    Thanks...

Are a body car from 69 to 72 with work. You need the spindles, backing plates, booster, master cylinder, and hold off valve or prop valve.

Check out this link and it will help

    Proportioning valve...

If you get a proportioning valve, do you need the hold off and delay valve as well, or is it one or the other?

    thanks again,

    Just a couple more?

Ed, Thanks for all the help thus far...The inline link was very helpful. I have noticed that my car has a dual reservoir master cylinder and a proportioning valve already bolted to the frame beneath the master. Is this normal for a 4 wheel drum brake car? I could snap a few pics if it would help?

I believe that is just a distribution block and doesnt control the amount of pressure to the front and rear. Its all equal pressure for the drums.

    drums to disc

i had a drum drum 66 larkgs. i bought b body gm tall spindles, had it machined to fit stock lower ball joints and bought custom rod works tubular control arms(to work with the upper ball joint). with these spindles you can swap to the c5 rotors which i just bought 13" rotors and corvette dual piston calipers. you should see the size difference.you can also run a 12" rotor and calipers from a caprice or any b body car. i have a complete stock disc setup still with the control arms and everything from a 72 gto .. i live in mass

Do you want the original setup? It uses 4 piston Moraine calipers that require special (Chevy) wheels. The master cylinder is different from the one for the drum brakes. If you already have a Moraine booster, it will work. If you have a Bendix, you'll need to switch to a Moraine. In the early years, the metering / proportionning valve wasn't combined to the junction block. The 1967 chassis manual refers to it as a metering valve and it's mounted on one of the bolts that hold the master cylinder to the booster. The design of the valve changed often and the 67 is almost rectanglar made by Kelsey Hayes. The 68 and 69 valves have a different shape.

    Thanks guys...

I will be hitting the wreckers around town as soon as the weather improves for a set of GM A-body booster, spindles, backing plate and a proprtioning valve. I'll form the lines myself and buy the calipers, bearings, rotors, master cylinder and pads new...Appreciate all the help.
