I have a 66 Skylark (drum brakes) and I cannot get the RF drum off. The star wheel is worn down and won't turn and the shoes are so tight against the drum the wheel cannot be turned by hand.

So, I think my only choice is to get a puller and try to remove the drum that way. Does anybody have a line on an inexpensive universal hub puller?

At $133.00 + for something that I may never use again, it seems kind a high. I have tried the local rental stores and they only have pulley style pullers. NAPA and the others dummyed up and acted like they had no idea what I was looking for.

I found one for about $40.00 but it was too small to fit.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have a solution for you only my blessing in your effort. I think that there isn't a puller in the world that can remove a drum that tight, the shoe and the drum are all probably heavily ridged and there may be a good size lip on the inside drum were it hasn't worn down. Might be time for the blue wrench or a sawsall, sorry.

Sounds like you have a bad lip worn on the inside drum which the shoes can not pass over. I usually just take 2 pry bars and slip in each side , between the drum and backing plate and pry outward rocking the drum back and fourth. Be carefull not to damage the backing plate or drum. If this does not work i guess You could look at each side of the backing plate and grind off the heads of the brake shoe retaining pins. Might help? I've never had to do it. I never have seen a puller for a brake drum, If its a front drum you could try an axle puller which you bolt to the lug studs, remove the wheel bearing retaing nut and outer bearing and then use the pulled. That may work ? I Never had to do that either.

Thanks for the input, I never thought about grinding off the ears, seems like that would work and I think most brake hardware kits include new ones, so I wouldn't have to go parts hunting for them.

I'm scared to pry on anything connected with this car as the parts are either unavailable or priced to the ceiling.

My other cars are Model A's and parts are dirt cheap for them. (repo stuff)
