Ok its me again with the '70 olds cutlass (the car from hell that is). I had asked for advice in a previous thread
    http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51927
because the car wasn't running correctly. Since then I pulled the intake again, removed the broken intake bolt from the head, reinstalled the intake and tuned up the car. World of difference but I still have some problems.

First and foremost is that I'm losing oil pressure when I rev the motor according to my factory rally pack gages. I know I shouldnt relie upon them but I thought my autometer gages would have been here by today but I guess not. My guess is that since my oil pan is partially concave ( I had jacked the motor up by the pan) I'm guessing that it is right against the pickup and when the suction is supposed to increase it can't. Anyone ever run into something like this before? At idle the gage shows good pressure.

Second is that the car is still running rich and turning my air mixture screws now does nothing whereas before closing them all the way actually increased the idle. I'm thinking maybe a warped base or plate in the carb (holley 3310-4) although it is fairly new but I have read that they are notorious for warping. Input please.

Last is I still got that annoying tapping. Wonder if its the Crane high intensity lifters. I have them in the buick and they aren't that annoying. Cold you don't really hear them but once the car reaches operating temp it was tap tap city. You think maybe I should tighten my roller rocker adjustment even more? I'm at about half turn from where I took out up down and twisting movement. I dont how tight I can go with crane lifters ( I will never use them again).

Please help as I was supposed to have been working on the buick back in June but the olds has been kicking my butt.

Hi Allen......Yes, aftermarket gauges are a must but I run them in parallel with the factory ralley gauges. Just put a brass "T" in there!

Yep...that will do it! If you go here I just got thru writing about that same situation in this thread..

Sounds as though you are also pulling fuel from the main curcuit too at idle. How far open to you have the throttle blades at idle? Too far and you uncover the "transition slots" causing what you have described.:Do No: I by no means am anywhere near a carb expert but I'm sure we have a few of those guys lurking around here that will certainly give you a hand!:TU:

I wouldn't necessarily adjust the lifters just yet. I would try using a thicker oil viscosity that doesn't thin-out so much after it gets warm and up to operating temp. BTW...what weight oil are you running?:Do No:

oil is straight 40 weight, same as what i have been running in my buick for past ten or so years.

knocking - At Salem when Kevin did the motor swap at the meet, the newly installed 455 was tapping/knocking.

.....Turned out to be the pan was dented and a rod was hitting....just slightly.

Maybe fixing your dented pan will kill 2 birds with one stone
