I turned in a stock drive shaft to a local driveline shop to make it longer. When I got it back, it looked much wider. It was the same width from end to end with no tapering at all. It is the same width as the u-joints and with the TH400 plus u-joints it weighs 20-21 pounds. Any issues with this? It does come very close to one exhaust pipe which is off center but otherwise clears fine. This is in a 70 GS 455 with TH400 and 8.2 posi 2.93
They would of had to. Its easy to make em shorter, just lop off what you don't need off the original tube and weld the end back on. To make them longer, they cut the ends off your original and replace the tube. The factory tube is tapered. The aftermarket tube is basically just a length of pipe. As long as it doesnt rub on anything you should be GTG. As far as the weight, I can weigh a stock shaft for you, but I don't think it really matters if its a little heavier/ lighter in the grand scheme of things. As long is they got the balance right
Yes it is a new shaft, new u-joints and balanced. My other drive shaft from my 71 4speed car 6 or so lbs lighter. Thanks for chiming in fellas. I still need to bleed the rear brakes then I can on a drive. On that note, do you think anyone would have interest in original wheel cylinders? Didnt know if those are rebuildable or just toss them out. Same question for an original 70 fuel sender.
Chuck them. What I usually do is just close my eyes and throw stuff like that away. It makes it less painful
Yes,they should make a new shaft, but I thought I'd better ask. I got a shaft last week, with a car,and some genius welded two together, right in the middle. It went straight to the dumpster.
