Drill bit sets - what have you bought?

I'm needing to buy the numbered drill bits for tuning on my Quadrajet. A Google search has turned up quite a variety of sets and price ranges. I'm curious what your thoughts are on price vs. quality needed for our use on our carbs. It's not like we're drilling into cast iron or hardened steel. Is it still worth spending double or more for a Cobalt bit? I saw a review claiming the Titanium Nitride coated aren't sized accurately (perhaps were prior to coating). Are the cheapy "High Speed Steel" good enough or a case of too-cheap?

Has anyone found a full #1-#80 set or have you had to buy the #1-#60 and #61-#80 kits? Anyone carry both? Seems most suppliers have one or other but not both.

For those of you who've been down this path already, I'd like to hear what you've found and if were you satisfied.

The inexpensive high speed steel bits are fine for carburetor work. Take the money you save, and buy a QUALITY pin vise. I have never seen a set containing all numbered bits 1-80, so you will probably need to purchase the sets separately. I also advise that diameter of the bits be verified with a micrometer or dial caliper. There is some inconsistency from one manufacturer to the next.

also keep in mind as long as you dont force it,andas long as the tensile strength of the bit exceeds the stength of the material to be drilled, chances are your golden, just let the tool do the work.
and never underestimate the importance of a good pilot hole when boring metal.

The offshore 1-60 sets can be purchased at Harbor Freight for $20. They go on sale for $10 from time to time. They are fine for drilling soft aluminum and brass, etc. Most sets I've seen are fine for size as well.

The offshore 61-80 sets are junk, and poorly sized from what I've seen here. I'd get the USA made HUOT 61-80 set, and a good pin vise as Jim mentioned. You'll find decent pin vises on the counter at your local welding supply store......Cliff

Thanks for all the input guys, I appreciate it!

I have two Made-in-the-USA sets on order.

I can see it now, the family will be gathered around the tree excitedly opening gifts, and there I'll be; right in the middle of them with a torn down carb on the coffee table sticking drill bits in it measuring up the current holes... "yeah, yeah, ok, I'll open it later. I just about have this carb mapped out!"
