Well... * Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After way, the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow. A friend in the know told me that the fuel line from the front tank is 4" and that when they deploy the chute, the fuel runs back into the tank away from the engine and that is what shuts the thing down.o No: Don't know for sure, just took his word for it. I had heard in the past that a car doing 195 mph covers the quarter mile in 5 seconds flat! Makes sense; 65 mph is about 88 feet per second. Multiply that times 3, that 264 ft/second, and times 5 seconds, that's 1320 feet.
