Glad to see you're okay Doug. You did much better than the engine. Will you be in Bowling Green running a car down the strip?

I bet no one will lend Doug a motor to use for a while.
Least till his blow up streek is over.

    Anyone check the RPM clock?
Maybe Doug needs glasses and thinks 9000RPM is 6000?

    JK Doug ;)

The first engine is a high rpm full race motor. Problem is the 30+ year old block design is crap for all out race application. As with the second engine the RPM's were at 6800 in high gear when it let go. Seems the second engine had a severe oil starvation as after we looked in the gapping hole you can see the rod journal where the steel rod used to be was black and burnt looking.

Doug used my spare motor a few years ago and put over 40 runs on it with no problems :Smarty:

I offered him a V6 motor from the Opel. He won't come over to the darkside.

So, I go to Virginia for the weekend (driving a rented moving truck to help my buddy relocate), and I log on from his new house to see what's up on the board since I last logged on this past Thursday. What am I greeted by? BOOM, BOOM, KAAAABBOOOOOMMM!! Pictures of the "Weekend from Hell" !! That is some ugly mess right there! :Dou: I really appreciate all of your well-wishes and I must say, it's the first time in all these years of racing that I've ever had the car fill up with smoke so I couldn't even see out the front windshield! I actually had to wait a few seconds to open the door when I was decelerating, until I had slowed down to around sixty, so I wouldn't have the door fly off while I opened it to let the smoke out. I was able to feel my switch panel through the smoke so I could shut all my switches off, even though I couldn't see them. I was just a little concerned that the car might be on fire, so I especially wanted to shut off the fuel pump! For anyone who has ever wondered why they give you a "Cockpit Blindfold Test" at the beginning of your NHRA comp license test, this would be why! You might have to shut the car down in the dark, or with your car on it's roof, or even in a car filled with smoke barreling down the track at 145! If you did your license runs at a track that signed off on your license without actually making you do the blindfold test, do yourself a favor.....Test yourself. Sit in your car with your eyes closed and make sure you know where everything is. Don't assume that you are familiar enough with your car that you don't need to practice. I happen to have a few hundred runs in my car, and I don't tend to panic over anything. I've been an EMT for fifteen years, so I've been tested under fire, so to speak. You won't know how you'll react in an emergency until you have one (God forbid), and that might be too late to find out you're not prepared. I don't mean to preach, but Bobb's accident at Cecil County woke me up enough to change my plans of replacing my full-face helmet with an open-face version. I'd like to wake up any racer who needs it. PLEASE make sure you're familiar enough with your car to shut it down in an emergency. I don't think I was lucky, I think I was prepared. I'd like my friends to be likewise. Sermon over. Please return to your regularly scheduled program. :beer

Sorry to hear about your travails. Best thing is you got it slowed down safe.

I definitely second all of your safety concerns. Routine brings calm.

I do something before each pass . I close my eyes, and go for the chute, ign, pumps belts, net, door latch--in that order -- 5 times right before I fire it to do the burnout. It just makes getting out of the car more of a routine .

I saw John Force going through that routine years ago --- I figure hes not a bad guy to pattern your driving skills after.

    glad your ok
