I just got about 7000 worth of bodywork done to my 72 GS convertible and I'm ready to have the paint put on and I can't find the door trim. (those long chrome pieces with the black plastic inserts.) I noticed that a lot of you shave the mounts when you have the car repainted. Anyone have the long trim piece that mount to the doors? I need the door pieces for both sides, or all of it if someone has it from a car they shaved it off of. Please let me know if you can help. After the paint's on its straight to the top shop! Thanks
Could you be looking for what are called "Window Fuzzies"? Just wondering, if thats it, when I did my old GS I got all that stuff from "The Parts Place Inc." They are in Elburn, Illinois. Good Luck on your quest :TU: D.
I just had my Suncoupe painted recently and had posted a thread looking for the same door guard trim. Does not appear to be reproduced at this time. Several other board members were looking for the same thing. The only option is find good used pieces.
Thanks for the replies! If you hear about any for sale I would be very thankful. Too bad they don't make reproductions, I would have had the mounts shaved when I had the car painted if I had known. Anyway, thanks again!
My GS had them, but were removed by the previous owner. I see a lot of GS's with them, but they're more common on Skylark Custom.
Go to E-Bay # 7946464058. He has at least one car with the moulding still attached on one side. He may possibly have more.
Ok--everyone has their personal preference but consider this Armand---if you think there is the slightest possibility you will sell the car at a later date(I would keep it as it sounds damn nice--but just in case) leave the trim off. $7000 for paint and you want to start drilling holes down the side? Like I said --I'm not taking sides (well, I am as I left the moulding off mine when I repainted) but it's something to think about. Patton
Thanks again for all the replies. Unfortunately, I had it painted with trim mounts still attached, so I have no choice but to now remount them. As for the car, 7000 was for body work and for paint, and while the bodywork is great the paint is just OK. I was going to leave it in primer for now but the body guy talked me into letting him paint it, and like I said it's OK. Next step is to the top shop, then I pull the motor and carpet and do all of that. By 2007 I should have a nice GS. And it is kind of unique because it is a 72 with a "three on the tree." Only five were made that way in 72. I'll post pictures on my web site as soon as I'm able. In the meantime, thanks again for the responses!
