This is funny. Its wierd how you notice something and then find out its the norm. On my 72 vert the windlace flat part does not quite meet the door sill plate on the passnger side. Drivers side it goes under. Checked my 71, same thing. Looking though my doc pics of other cars, I have found many that are like that.

I've never noticed this before, but of course paying attention to everything on the vert as it goes together.

Is it a plant thing or what is the deal? Kind of annyong as it doesn't look right but if its correct....?

    Pic attached.

GM quality contol circa 1971/72. It's no wonder Renault/Nissan are buying them out. If you want to see really bad quality control, you should see my 75 Skyhawk...

On my Riv that flap of fabric is tucked behind the pillar and therefore not visible. Are you guys sure that is correct?

Goes under on both sides on my 4door. Not as purty as yers but that gap would bug me to no end right or not heh. then again I'm not going for a correct car which probally makes things even harder im thinkin.

Yup, unless every single car I've ever seen is wrong?

And it IS bugging me. Now that car is almost complete, I have a new list of things to do like this piece. Basically upgrades to make some parts better yet.

I guess you only see one side at a time, but would like to find one longer. Problem is, when you start buying them off people, you don't know until its on there. Could end up with 20 of the things before I get a good one!!! :Dou:

    Tim.......this is a GM production car......not a hand-built Rolls Royce.

If you keep this up.......going over the car with intense focus.....you are going to find many items....not to your satisfaction and probably end up in the Looney Bin!

Oh yeah, don't worry, I know everything that is wrong and good with this car.....and it does drive me nuts because I can't do anything about it short of remanufacturing parts myself. :Dou:

It also gives it character. I'm certainly not perfect and neither is the car, so we're a good match!! All that said, I do plan to show the car at some bigger local shows, and I know how people/judges pick things apart, so the less ammo I give them the better (except for some obvious ones so they feel good and leave it at that!). I'd like a car I can be proud of and that I did most of myself, and that is competitive (maybe), at about 30% of what most of the cars there cost their owners to build (or get built) in my class.

BTW, any idea when those floormats will be for sale??

Looney bin was last year, this year not sure yet!!  :Dou:

I'm not that familair with the 70-72 body style....
    So this might be dumb....

But... I know on some cars I've owned through the years, the sill plate doesn't bolt into "holes" in the floor, but it bolts into "slots" in the floor which would let you move the sill plates front-to-back a little bit.
    :Do No:

Regardless.... I wouldn't worry about it Tim. Your car is going to be GREAT!

I should have an update on 7/21. I will keep everyone posted.
Also, will check in on the inner fender bracing parts as reproductions.

Nope, four screws into sill. I have a rule about changes to things like that..I don't modify the "hard" points...meaning I will change the windlace before I would consider drilling new holes and moving door sill back 3/16". Same with all parts, if you have to modify something to work, figure out a way to modify the easily replaced parts so you never do something you can't change back.

All these cars have four screws per sill that i have ever seen. The big car might be different.

And George, looking forward to some floormats!!!

    Thanks guys.

Don't feel bad Tim, my '71 HTP is the same way. It was built in Flint. I never would've noticed if you hadn't said something.

I think this kinda cool. Sure makes for a great trivia question. I'd just leave it alone, it adds character :bglasses:
