I am relatively new owner and am looking to get my car to a better mechanical state and then tackle some body work. The doors on my 73 Riviera have very little sag, but there remains about 1/4" of play when the door is completely closed. This is on both doors. The Fisher body manual is no help. One of the mechanics I use suggested that there should be a plastic piece over the door latch (he said a "C" shape) which would be the part that contacts the post when closed. Does anyone know or have any suggestions for me. One post is clean metal and the other has a grommet like material on it. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thanks

Your weather stripping is probably shot. Also the striker can be adjusted. Just loosen the pin and tap it in slightly and re tighten Repeat as necessary.

Weatherstripping is definitely shot. Thanks. I hadn't thought of that, but it was on the list so it moves up now. I will go find the weatherstripping threads...
