I know this is crazy, because most people removed this item when new (including my dad) becuase of the iritation factor, but we would like this to work on the restored X. The door buzzer does not work on our '70 GSX, but the horn works and the door light switch works as well. I believe the horn relay is also the door buzzer as well, and these are no longer available (according to NAPA). Is there a test to check this operation? The steering column has also been rebuilt as has the ignition lock tumbler, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Scott, I'm going on memeory here, but the door buzzer is only on when the key is in the ignition, correct?? There is a contact setup inside the steering column that is made with the key in....it is very small and commonly tossed (or broken) during an overhaul.

If the horn works the buzzer should also work. The speed alert speedos also used the same buzzer.

Can find more info if you need, I have it here somewhere...

    Tim,

This is what I thought. The horn relay is working because the horn works. I have also tried a couple of other horn relays with the same results. I'll take a closer look at the steering column ignition assembly when I get a chance.

    Thanks.

Would the parts be the same from a '71 LeSabre? I took all the buzzer contacts out of mine last winter, I should still have them somewhere.

If you want/need them, I'll dig them out and mail them to you. They might as well drive SOMEBODY crazy!!!

If you need pics or wiring diagram, let me know....I'll look them up. The switch itself is a small plastic clear peice with two long contacts coming out of it, when you insert the key the contacts make and complete the circuit.

you could check by taking apart connector under column and metering out the connector contacts while you insert the key..this would avoid taking the column apart, if you get continuity with the key in, then you know the switch is working ok inside the column....

e-mail me at ritc1@shaw.ca and I can send you the diagrams...give me an hour or so please...

there sole purpose was to remind u that u left your keys in the ignition . but we all ended up disconnecting the buzzer, at the door frame switch, back in the old days, because if u were cleaning the interior and had the tunes blasting, we did not want the racket from the buzzer.

I seem to remember they were a separate buzzer under the dash that we always hunted down and unplugged.
    Horn would still work.
My Dad used to have me do it because I could get my arm up under the dash easier than he could.

seems to me that buzzer type assembly was in the late 70's into the 1980's .

Yeah, maybe that's what I am thinking of.
A square plastic piece with the buzzer inside of it.

In some cars, I don't know about an early 70's model, but wasn't there a pressure sensor in the driver's seat, that detected if someone was sitting there and if there was, then it wouldn't buzz until the guy gets out and leaves the keys in, or was that for the auto door locks?

In 72 they started putting that "sensor" in to see if anyone was in the seat, but I belive it was for the seatblet buzzer....otherwise there would be no way to know if anyoe was in the passenger seat, etc.

i think that the seatbelt buzzer was mandatory only in the u.s. .
