i found a 75 electra 4 door that has a rotted roof. is there a kit that i can use if i cut of the roof off and make it a drop top. i dont want to see the car go to a derby when the body is still good. plus i think it would be neat to have a 4 door convertiable any one?

    a. not that i've ever heard of ... for any type of car much less a full size

    b. the roof is rotted out but the floorpan is still good?

    c. the frame will not have had the necessary strengthening to run without a roof ... and it would be very difficult to do so on a car as long as the Electra anyways. if you're really set on doing this i would suggest leaving a 'halo' from at least the rear C pillars forward.

this will also help locate your center post so won't have major alignment problems with the rear doors.

I have a '71 Coupe DeVille, 36K miles, same problem. The only decent fix is to "re-skin" the roof with the help of a donor car.

although my 76 lesabre has an un-boxed frame, my 74 electra has a boxed (i think GM called it "full perimeter") frame just like my two 74 and two 75 convertibles...
but the electra has a longer wheel base also.
placing a functional vert top on an electra would be an extremely difficult task ...most people cant properly put a top on a lesabre that is already a vert

there is no good roofs around here and i dont want to pay to have one shipped. i figured it would be a medium build since ive seen monte carlo's drop top and others that were never drop tops from the factory. also i figured withthe frame it would not need much work. i saw a 66 lincoln 4 door drop top and i said that would be neat to do to a deuce. what about if i got the top from a conv lesabre. are they not the same frame and measurements or very close the c pillars are really bad
    thanks anyways

most of those montes end up with doors that wont close because the rockers cant support the weight. extra body mounts can help to a point.
they usually dont have operational tops either. ..some have a hardtop that attaches.
the electra roof is about 6 inches wider than a vert. so each side window would be about 3 inches from a vert frame. plus the window outline on the electra is nowhere close to matching the verts at the font pillar or rear or the overall length.
the electra passenger compartment is about 5 inches longer from the back of the rear seat to the bottom of the A pillar.
the vert takes a different windshield and frame that has more curve to it at the ends to match the header bow.

i've seen 2 around flint with the roofs cut off . fair weather only cars i would guess. they were both ghetto fabulous. 24's and such. not sure what was done to reinforce the structure but kinda kool except the ghetto wheels

  8. how are ya with a 5x6 sheet and a english wheel? oh and mig?

Ok may be a little much but how is the floor, without the floor and boxed frame you might just fold it in half when you hit the first bump, and you;ll never get the doors open. Good luck though.

im ok what i thought about doin was to get a 1974 or full size convertiable frame and modifying it to fit and such. i was also gonna look at the lesabres from that year and copy the frame in reenforments areas anyways it will be a project that will last YEARS
