I'm thinking about a change to a set of widened, black steel wheels with dog dish-style hub caps for our '67 Special. Has anyone done this in an application using the long wheel studs in the rear?

Several times. You are going to have to cut the studs shorter.

You can always go with my adapters and keep the light weight Weld Draglite wheels. Just a thought.

I have long wheel studs in mine and I didn't have to cut them at all to fit my steel wheels and poverty caps. Better try them first before you cut anything.

I didn't have to cut mine - 2-1/2" long, 15x8 steelies, OEM doggies....3" long would have fit but I didn't need them that long :Smarty:

True. I missed the steel wheel part! You may be able to get by without cutting since the steel wheel is recessed! I have always used aluminum wheels which arent recessed.

I've got long studs in the rear only on Mandys GS, no problem with steel or the Welds with Steves adapters.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

Same here. Chevy rallys with poverty caps on my '67 when I bought it.

Great news...We're gonna try it. Where are you guys buying stock-style steel wheels in sizes like 15 x 8?

    Thanks for all the replies!

Mine were off of Steve Schlater's green car, maybe PM him and see where he had them made.

I ordered mine special through Wheel Vintiques. 15x8 with a 5.5" BS. No factory wheel was ever built with those dimensions and it's the only thing that will fit a 275/60-15 tire under a `65 Skylark. They are the same size as my Prostars.

I had to cut my long studs with welds and dog dish adaptors. Maybe my studs were longer for some reason. Oh well, typical for my luck I guess.

I thought Wheel Vintiques might be the source.
    Thanks, Bill!
