Does anyone know of a source where I could get brand new exhaust manifold bolts that look like the originals? Thanks!
try these guys, sorry no web site but they had a bunch of hardware in thier catalog about 5 years ago Fox Run Automotive Restoration Products 1 Fox Run Oyster Bay, NY 11771 516-626-2369
Carl I bought a Grade 8 set from my local bolt and nut store for $5.00. Just carry in the old set and you match them and buy them by the piece.
Jim,right now I have those bolts on my car,but I'm changing to the original style bolts for concours. If you see the original style bolts and compare them to regular style bolts, you can easily see the difference.
I presumed you were comparing the big head bolts to say the smaller stainless head bolts. You can clean up some old ones but they will have been through a bunch of heat cycles. Check th GM part locator but they may have changed the design since then. Here are some of the numbers 1382335 1378975 1378971 1382331 1384929 I wonder if the head markings are really an issue once the paint is applied like on Brad's? Let me know what you find.
Try here! Carl, the corvette place down the street from me has lots of standard GM fasteners, try them HERE One of the owners is working on a '72 Skylark he bought last spring! (Steve) Later, R
Carl, If you can't come up with new ones, TA has hundreds of used ones. You might be able to work something out where they could pick through them for good ones or do a lot purchase, not sure. Dave
Carl www.Hinshawschevelle.com has a 68-72 BB exhaust manifold kit for $20.00 (#40853 ). I doubt the lengths are all the same as a Buick and I am unsure whether the markings are the same.
Jim,I'll have to look at the lengths of the bolts and also the physical dimensions of them on that Chevelle website. Dave,I will call TA Performance tomorrow to see if they can put together a kit for me. Or better yet,if you can Dave, could you check with Mike and see about getting a kit of manifold bolts and then PM me what it will cost? That would be great. I really appreciate the help you guys are giving me. Thank you.
Sorry to hijack the thread... Hi Dave. I called TA a couple of weeks ago and asked for you... I was surprised to hear you had left. What are you up to now???
I work for Honeywell in their Customer Response Center. Similar to TA but with aircraft avionics components. Dave
Carl, I can give you the name of the company that makes the bolts. They manufacture the ones for Fords, but they look exactly the same except for the threaded end. The GM's were tapered on the end, while the Fords were not. Either style will work fine with concours. I have the info buried, but will get it on here within the next few days. The only one they may not have is the real long one (4"). Duane
Duane and Carl I have some used ones. Refresh my memory on what is unique about the heads on the original bolts. I As far as I know that is all you can see once installed.
Jim and everyone, The exhaust bolts are unique, the heads have small ledges stamped into them, and so do the washers. When you tighten the bolts the ledges "Grab" and the washers bite into the manifold/heat shield. The ends of the GM bolts are not threaded all the way to the end (like the ford bolts), but have a tapered end. This end is visible on some of the bolts. Look at the front bolt on the driverside manifold, you can see the end sticking through. Duane
Duane, that would be great if you can get me the info.Thank you. Not too many people know how unique these bolts are, unless they actually look at how the bolts are made.
Carl, Sorry I don't have any for sale. But here's a photo of one I bought from YEARONE about 15 years ago.
