Hello everyone. I was wondering if a 7042240 Q Jet is the same if it's an egr manifpld or not? I need the correct carb # for a 72 GS 455 ,Cali emission EGR equipt manifold. Is this the right # ? Thanks for any input, Kevin.

    Kevin,
The correct carb for the California cars is 7042940. Looking at my 72 Chassis manual, the specs are identical to the 7042240 which is the carb listed for the non -California cars. Jetting is the same, 73 primary jets, 44B primary rods, CT secondary rods(.0774 tips-lean). All the other specs are the same. It is possible the only difference might be an extra vacuum nipple to operate the EGR, I'm not sure. Bottom line, the 7042240 will work, but is not concourse correct. BTW, I have a John Osborne prepped 7042240 on my Stage1. John jetted it with 76 jets/46B rods, and BG secondary rods(.0397 tips)

If you just want it to look correct you can drill the baseplate and epoxy in a nipple from another carb. I have done this and it looked and worked fine. Otherwise if you want the exact carb try this. www.blake/oemcarbs/partlist.htm they are pricey however.

Thanks for the info , Dave . "Pricey " isn't in my vocabulary. I'd rather wait and find one here that needs a rebuild . Car is up and running , that's what's important.
