Can you use a 455 intake manifold on a 430? If so are there any production years that match up the best. Are there any other parts that can cross over?

  2. there are alot of 430 intakes out there. why would you want to put a 455 on it. you could probably even find a code dated one.
is there better flow between the 455 verses the 430?
    just wondering i guess?

He might be asking because of the aftermarket. Edelbrock has a "Performer 455" manifold, for instance.

Many guys use 430 heads on their 455s.

  4. there are alot of 430 heads and intakes hear that just sit. i have seen just the opisite on a 430 , it has 455 heads on a 430 motor.
funny how differnt parts of the U.S. have differnt ways of doing things:3gears: :Comp:

Well, not every 430 has the big valve heads, the 455 guys who use 'em want the big valve heads. If you have a 430 without the big valves and you have a pair of 455 heads that were better, I'd use the 455 heads if I were you, lol

My understanding was that some of the 430 heads had larger ports (valve size the same) and flowed better than the later 455 heads.

Both edelbrock intakes say 400/430/455 right in the add so that should not be an issue.

Agreed. I paid to have a Stage 1 conversion done to my 430 heads so I'm pretty sure Tim is right.

However, with a small amount of porting, a 455 head will flow equally.

A friend put a 430 intake on a 73 455. It bolted on fine, so I see no reason a 455 intake wouldn't bolt onto a 430. It may look strange though. The emmissions intakes have alot of garbage on them. However, my 70 455 intake looks almost the same as my 67 430 intake.
