I'm smoothing out all the roughness on my intake and water crossover, and also doing the doing the Doc mod. Sending the intake and crossover out to get ceramic coated at a local coating place. It will be as smooth and as shiny as the chrome bumpers on the car.:cool:

Snake, looks like I'm doing the same as you, already had my headers coated. Soon I'll be doing the Intake and crossover :TU:

ground the ''goose bumps'' off , did ya..... I thought about doing my exhaust manifolds like that,,but figured that they radiated the heat off.....:Brow:

Getting them coated will dissipate the heat anyway . I want the intake and crossover to match my headers. I'm painting the block, timing cover, and water pump red, but have ARP stainless bolts for them, and polishing the repro Buick
GS valve covers and finned valley cover, with the coated headers, intake and crossover with ARP stainless bolts all around, with an MSD pro billet distributor, custom 12 mm wires, and a Quickfuel drag series 750 double pumper. Its gonna be red and silver all around.

That's the way to do it Greg, smooth everything then get it coated, use good engine enamel.I am also going for that look
red and silver. The Star Wars air cleaner I have is a repop that's aluminum , so it can be polished and painted. I chose to get the Fenton valve covers & also painted that script on the exhaust mainifolds. My father was a metal polisher for Fenton here in Redondo Beach back in 1962 when I was born. So anything Fenton means a lot to me. My dad said fienklestein was the owners name but his noses name was Bud. Back then my father revolutionized different ways to polish parts and rims by cutting belts in half and using a roller skates to roll parts, he was the best the company had.

Thats pretty awesome, yeah, i hate the look of the rough cast, theres a couple other Nails in my area, no work on them at all, they look so crude stock. This is all my oppinion, which is why i'm making mine look the way i want it too. whered you find your star wars air cleaner?

Please excuse my ignorance but will any GM made 400,430 or455 blocks cut out to be a dual plane like these nail head intake manifolds do?This would be a great low budget job to add power

    Thanks

Short answer is yes. Greg Gessler has been doing this type of mod on BBB and SBB intakes for some time. I assume it works just as well.

All that aside, check this out:

Someone is doing cast iron SBC intakes and getting 900.00 a pop (or at least looking for that!)

Doc, you and I are in the wrong business!

doc, has anyone machined the divider one inch down to make it look similar to a rpm airgap intake? going to be doing your mod on my setup and while I have it on the Bridgeport going to machine a notch in the divider between .750 and 1.00.

Paul, I seem to remember somebody doing that. It might have even been Gessler. In any case I would expect that to be an improvement. If you've got access to a mill go for it!

HMMMM,,, it seems like some one did that,,,, but I dont recall anybody reporting just what difference it made and how much....that would be one of those mods that you would need to do , and do nothing else, to tell what it does for the engine.....

I think I remember reading that notch is done so it breathes better at higher rpm. How high the rpm has to be for it to work is anybodys guess. I think gsgtx was done like like that, he says it seemed to work ok but it was done with the doc job at the same time.I did my doc job and went straight to a 1/2 inch open spacer which kinda has the same effect and it really liked it. Better than the 1/2 inch 4 hole spacer which didn't have a notch
