    TA read post 62
    Mark burton read post 63

and to clarify about custom parts and non TA companies

excluding my ordeal with john as gaskets to go for the MLS gaskets, all other parts were made by buick companies or creative buick enthusiests

custom forged pistons made by mike phillips of amp
custom raceweight forged pistons made by hershe performance
custom raceweight forged connecting rods made by hershe performance
centrifical superchargers made by xs performance(global engine brands but buick guys none the less)
single plane intake and twinturbo kit by mark burton
steve reynolds of SRE Performance Fabrications Inc. makes custom deep sump oil pans

gasoline got us thick header flanges and is on the way to getting us girdles machined!
custom intakes by gsjohnny and hectic and i'm sure other guys getting creative to put chevy/ mopar and even ford parts in our buicks to go faster as theyre own r&D expense

so all i'm saying is these parts above still went to a buick person and not some joe smow or global compy that doesnt give a **** about anything except numbers :TU:

when i built mine, i went to a local caster who does chevy intakes for street rods, name eludes now, oh, ingelesee, and the quote was 10k. not counting machining. if was 10k total, i might have done it.....

I am very bummed about my car these days. My shop has been so slow, I can't afford ANYTHING extra right now. I bought oil for the car, and am using it in my truck instead because I need to get the truck ready for winter, which it doesn't like.

I also just found out yesterday that my transmission can't get finished because the pump gears are chewed up, which wasn't caught during teardown. I can't afford a new pump.

I am thinking about making some 4-valve heads for my 350 out of a solid block of aluminum. Then I was planning a Mars expedition.

4 valve heads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHA that would be nuts.DOHC 32 valve twin turbo Buick 350.It has 700hp and yet still gets 24 miles to the gallon!:TU: That would be nuts tho dual over head cam 350.That would be a sight indeed!

We have Eagle rods for an SBC application that fit perfectly with slight narrowing and one bearing tang moved. This combo has been track proven 12s NA shifted at 6500 rpm all 08 season and in 2010 will be running one of the steel X factors! Reliable and the cheepest option so far for forged piston and rods combo

Brian Leibee said that it would be no problem to do another setup like this for someone just call and he can repeat the machining on a set of rods for less then fancy offset grinds on the crank. The rods are very slightly narrowed, bearing tang moved and stock buick 350 bearings are used, the piston is custom made anyways so no problem to go with the SBC pin diameter.

    Info on the pistons :
The piston builder Ross Racing Pistons with 4cc oversized diameter valve reliefs for about 11:1 compression. Job card # off the order sheet was 115793. Precision Machine,Phone# 307-362-5049.

Believe me I tried to get a set of the advertised rods with no luck before ordering my Hershe rods. Ever since I first started with Buick 350s I lusted for strong rods and it took 3 years before I had the disposable income for a set and another 2 years until the rods where produced for us. I am much happier with the forged steel rods compared to the elusive alum rods due to my intended street use anyways.

I noticed that the newer one with the diamond plate has a straight shot from the carb to the heads. Is this the one you have for your project turbo blast?

So you tried to get the alum rods but couldn't, then just went with the Hersch rods?

    How long before blastoff...

Yes I am using this style intake on my Turbo Skylark, however mine is slightly different since it has nitrous bungs for direct shots to each clylinder as well as fuel injector bungs for multi-port fuel injection. I will be running this intake with a blow-through carb then working out the fuel injection later. The nitrous provision is because I may possibly run a 10 shot of nitrous to each cylinder making for a 80 shot on top of the boost.. There are V6 turbo racers doing this.

Correct, I tried to get TA rods but they would not make them.... Like I said I am happier with the Hershe rods now anyway though.

Next spring I hope to get the car back from Mark with cage, bodywork and paint done as well as turbos installed on stock 70 engine and dual 3" exhaust. Once I get the car up here and get some time on that combo I will drop in the HOT 350, strong trans, built rear end and crank things up!

i would love to upgrade to the a/l lightweight bling bling x-factor,

As with many of us 350-ers, I would love to have more options for built-up/re-build. A single plan switch would be my first step with the heads to follow when the $2k falls from the sky. The money will appear we just don't know when. One thing; will the intake ports match both the stock heads and the new al. heads?

I vote - build it and they will come
