This is for sale on E-Bay and the guy claims it is a GS hood scoop delite car. Look it over and tell me what else there is to doubt about his story. *(look at his recent purchases...455 & GS emblems and new dash woodgrain) ou: Skylark emblems on the door panels instead of GS emblems....WTF !?!? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970...ryZ16124QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem TUFBUICK
VIN says GS455, 4- Buick, 46-GS455, 37-2door Cpe. The hood is a Skylark hood, and it has the Skylark nose trim. Door panel says Skylark. Car could have been in an accident, or the Dealer might have modified the car for the old man. Who knows, the car is 35 years old, lots of things could have happened.
The VIN is correct for a GS and the cowl plate looks untouched but I would like to see the Sloan documentation for the car and see that it was ordered as an SCO (not shown on the cowl plate) GS without the GS hood.
It's a nice car. I'd just bid on it for what it is and let the seller play whatever games he's playing.. what's up with the air cleaner... dual shorty air horns... is that normal? F
It was probably restored and has Skylark hood and door panels on it. Who on earth would order a car without a hood? ou: SCO? Doubt it.. :error: Fremont cars had the cowl tag blank with 2 dashes for the paint code . :Smarty: It is a Fremont car though, because it has the weird 2 stamped on the tag over BDY. I've seen a lot of them with that. Always wanted to know what it was for.
Take a close look at the fender emblems. Is it me or is the 455 emblem and GS emblem spaced too far apart from each other? I always thought they are closer together. If so I would agree that if the VIN states its a GS 455 then this car must have some history on being hit or/redone years back and not placed back properly.
Check out the shot of the engine compartment. You can see different color paint on the inside of the passenger side fender. Was probably a GS that was hammered and put together from used Skylark parts. That would also explain the incorrect spacing on the fender emblems. Also, why would the "elderly gentleman" need the motor rebuilt at 80K miles? May have been a 350 car that they converted when the nose was off. Curious to see if it has the radiator support brace rods that only the big blocks got, but the angle of the pic doesn't show it. Should have a TH400 with matching #s. Wonder what the excuse will be for that one. Of course there won't be a build sheet or window sticker. Donny
Guys, that is a GS455, the VIN # says so. What happened to it, I don't know. Early 70's had pointed lenses, and clear top coolant tanks. But if it was in an accident, anything could have been replaced. I think it's safe to assume that not all the parts on this car are original. BTW, that is aftermarket side moulding, and it goes above the wheel. The person that put that on should be shot. That's the first thing that I would remove, HOW UGLY!
Curious to see if it has the radiator support brace rods that only the big blocks got, but the angle of the pic doesn't show it. Donny[/QUOTE] Not only did the BB cars get those exclusively,I have parted a 70 GS350 auto that came factory with them,as well as my 71 GS350 has them and another 72 GS350 that Dustin had also came with them. They were part of the ralley package.
Although I don't believe this story for a minute, this car has too many Skylark things on it for me to think that its been that way forever! But, old men have strange desires! The First thing my dad did when he bought his '87 T-type was ordered a stock Regal hood - without the bulge- and have it painted to match the silver car. Then he took the 3.8 Turbo badges and removed the Turbo so it just said 3.8...he put it up on jackstands and checked out the mph limiter, got a chip and removed the catalytic convertors... :beer He's 73 and drives a '78 4-door Malibu Classic with a 2000 Z06 engine... Can you say sleeper? Ted
Don't get me wrong for the right price it's a nice car. It does have some serious issues to be questioned. Another here. My GS is an early GS as it also has the cone dash lens. I took a shot of my dash VIN and pasted this Buick on Ebay VIN directly below. The first #4 on the E-bay VIN seems to be spaced. I look at both VINS and this one seems different. Again I say it's not a bad car but there are some questions here. Was it re-tagged? Last I knew my GS is a bonified GS455 since I was the third owner bought it in 1978. Check out the shot attached. Maybe some other numbers experts can add to this.
Alright I got to wondering. I took a shot of the body tag on my GS455 which had never been removed or altered. I pasted the body tag of the EBAY Buick. Take note that after the 70 number on the EBAY car there is a dash stamped. My body tag has no dash stamped after the 70. Could it possibly be that cars made in different factories had different fonts in their stamping on the tags? Or is this a conterfeit tag and vin. Just wondering guys. I'm by far no expert on this topic. Larry we need you back here. :Smarty:
