---On a side note and is this just a personal problem of mine? I tend to stop reading posts when I come across "dizzy" when referring to a distributor- it just belongs on a ricer boards to me and rubs me the wrong way when I read posts on this board- Thanks for the shrink sofa time
Ricers? I've only seen that terminology from our board members from overseas. I don't care for it myself, but I certainly don't let it bother me when someone else uses it.
That and the 1500 word paragragh of run on sentences has my eyes glazing over and reaching for the Visine.
ahh yes, I first noticed it on the oversea's offerings, but have seen it creeping into local lingo; I still can not help but get the instant feeling of turned off. Again, just a personal peave.
I did a board search for "dizzy" Only one "overseas member" is using that word on the first page of results: (Showing results 1 to 25 of 171) occupant - Location: Hill County, TX buickgs350 - Location: Brentwood bay BC, Canada (several posts) 70sLark - Location: NW Ohio (several posts) jdk971 - Location: ohio (several posts) GranSportSedan - Location: Salem, oregon Lightningbird - Location: Sydney, Australia 73_LeSabre_Tim - Location: Lewiston, ID Snowbound - Location: Lacombe, Alberta GSDrew - Location: San Jose, CA exfarmer - Location: Saskatchewan, Canada chris roesch - Location: manitoba canada ahhh65riv - Location: Creswell OR Lark custom 70 - Location: Phoenix Az
How about the rest of the search? And I did say "I've" only seen... And the 4 Canadians don't count. p
I'd love to have this one of the only things that worries and bugs me. I'd have no worries. consider yourself lucky that this is all you have to get worked up about. Please take the above comments in jest as it's like my grandma who hates being with a group of her friends and hates being called "guys" when greeted by someone like a member of the wait staff.
Someone get that man into texting and see how fast he changes Its a dizzy and always will be. Talk about word changes, recent news is your not allow to use the word retard anymore even if your taking car tech info. As its an insult slang use to disparage a group of people. So you must hold back your timing.
I wish I had a "posi", but I'd really get in trouble with a "blower". Maybe I should just get a hotter "cam"... Joking aside, I don't really like the dizzy thing either, but the times, they are a changin' Nick
I'm quite convinced that "dizzy" is a much older abbreviation than the current ricer trend. In fact, I'm quite sure that it's been around as hot rodder jargon since the early days in the '40s and '50s. On the other hand, I, too, much prefer "dist." myself. :TU: Yet, it's not something for me to get worked up over.
I've got a couple of Model A fords, all stock, so sometimes I have to use the Fordbarn web forum for information. All those old geezers in the Fordbarn call em dizzy's which is reason enough for me to refer to it as "that round thing which can shock you repeatedly if everything isn't right". Easier than spelling distributor.
