I'd like to rebuild my distributor in my 70 gs 350. I currently have an HEI installed but can't use the GS Snorkel so I'd like to remove the HEI and reinstall my original Distributor. I want to remove the points and put in a Pertronix Kit or something simular, and I wanted to rebuild or freshen up the entire distributor. I've never done this before so I have a few questions. 1. If all works fine now should I just do the electronics and not rebuild the entire distributor? 2. Is there some off the shelf kit you can buy to rebuild a distributor for what ever parts that are common wear items? 3. I've never done one of these before so lastly on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being easy and 10 hardes, how hard of a job is this? Matt
Too bad you don't want an HEI. Dave Ray (IgnitionMan) converts stock points distributors with his own conversion made from over the counter auto parts store GM parts, to real HEI. He also completely rebuilds the distributor as he does the conversion. Regards, Milton
Here's a good source for parts: http://www.kendrick-auto.com/ignition.htm Pertronix is not the best choice. Dave Ray's small-body HEI conversion is a good candidate.
You can polish the shaft with some crocus cloth. No Jokes! An advance kit is worth it as well. Try lighter springs in the kit for faster curve.
Shawn, I forgot all about Norm. That might be the better way to go then it's just plug and play! I'll give you a call later this week. Thanks.
