I happened to be browsing the posts when i ran into one about installing the gear on the distributor backwards. I recentrly installed a p[ertronix ignition module and had to shim the gear to maintain the right tolerance and it just hit me that I neve noticed the orientation on the gear.

Now I am questioning myself if mine is properly installed?

The thing is that My 350 started on the first attempt with the new pertronix and the car has ran good since.

If the gear is backwards it wont even contact the drive, would it?

On the gear, there is a drilled "dimple". This dimple should be mounted so it is fairly closely aligned with the firing tip on the rotor.
