I live in the delaware area and every dealer I have called here cannot look up parts before 1976. I need to order the drive gear for the distributor, this is a separate piece on the camshaft. can anyone tell me of a dealer(anywhere) where i can get this
I'm confused... Do you mean the gear on the distributor end? The drive gear on the cam shaft is part of the cam itself. If you need a 350 distributor drive gear I can help you out. If your cam gear is worn then thats a hole different issue. Jake
distributor drive the one i need is the separate gear that goes in front of the fuel pump eccentric on the camshaft. This cam is built that way, were the drive gear and the fuel pump eccentric are removable, they are help on by a bolt and washer on the front of the cam. Thanks for your reply
Cam Gear replacement Try calling TA Performance. They may have used ones in good shape, that they would sell you. By the way, you are looking for the cam gear. It is removable on the 350. Wish that were the case for the 455. Good luck.
Won't a gear from a later Buick 350 work? Or am I wrong? I got mine from a dealer, but that was years ago. There are some dealers on the web that allow you to look up your own parts and order them - at lower than list price. If you have a high volume oil pump, get a alum /bronze dist gear from TA or you'll kill the new gear too
cam gear Chief, If you can use a used gear I have a few good ones that are in good shape. If you pay shipping I'll send you one.I have 6 350 motors soI'M sure that I can help you out.Let me know. Pat :TU:
The drive gear (on the cam) was removeable all the way to the end of the 350 Buick production run. So if you ask for a gear for a '79 or '80 350 Buick its going to be the same gear as a '69 350 Buick. Most parts counter guys arent that knowledgeable about waaaaaaaay older vehicle parts. Mark
As it was on all oddfire v6's. I believe they're available from the aftermarket. I'm sure someone on here has an old one they'll let you have. If you lived closer I'd give you one.
if i recall correctly, they are the same as the v6. warning to all; excessive cam and oil pressure WILL wear out the cam and distributor gear. aka coiffiecent of physical drag. :Smarty:
Give TA performance a call (480)-922-6807. They can sell you a new one pn#TA-1399 distributor drive .Mine cost 65.00 plus shipping.walter
Yep and sadly SBBUICK passed away a couple years ago. I was set back when I looked at this thread and saw where he had posted on it. I met Andrew and had sat in his car. Nice guy with outside the box thinking. Godspeed Andrew Andrews video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgFBs0z4FdY
We can now remember him once again. I do recall some of his ideas as being different from the accepted norm.
