    To all
Any problem with putting a disc brake set up from a 74 Olds on my 68 Skylark? They are both A bodies. Any help is appreciated

i dont think it will work. i think the only disc brakes that will work for your 68 are 68-72 chevelle/skylark-GS.

68-72 A-body and 68-74 Nova will work. Usually wont find Novas with db unless they are SS models. 73-77 A-body will NOT work. Good Luck!

Thanks guys. Not the answer I wanted but it confirms what I feared. I wish I would have checked with you before I bought these off the '74. :Dou: They are probably as common as belly buttons and worth nothing
When I compared the 2 spindles I could see major dimensional differences, so then I was trying to figure out if I changed the a-arms, etc would it work. Oh well. Back to scrounging. I may give up and just order a new set up. It almost looks like by the time I find the parts, rebuild the calipers, turn the rotors, replace the bearings, seals, etc I could buy the new set.
    Thanks again for the input

A new set will cost $500-700 from aftermarket suppliers. You can do a set with original parts for less than that. Up to you.

Global west upper control arms will allow you to fit those spindles
(i think- if they are the same as mid 80's B-body and mid 70 F-body). For the about the same 400 bucks one would spend replacing them with orginal A-body brakes, your car will handle much better and replacement parts for the latter style brakes are almost free. I have a set and am amazed at how well it handles.

Please give me more info on this conversion. Almost everyone else says it cant be done. If it can and a better handling and stopping car is the result then I am interested. Instead of buying aftermarket A-arms will the stock ones off of the 74 work?

george, nova db's will work? a buddy told me that he tried to put nova db's on his chevelle and they wouldnt work because of dimensions and all that. i just sold a good set not long ago too, off a 73 nova. :Dou:

Yes, 68-74 Nova disc brakes are supposed to be the same. I have seen this listed in the Hollander's Interchange Manual. I have to confirm that listing since all the Novas here are the plain jane, el cheapo, models. As long as the disc brake set-up has the removable/changeable steering arm, they will work. Also, remember all 1969-72 Grand Prix and 70-2 Monte Carlo had disc brakes from the factory. Those are the same ones as A-body.

If you use the global west control arms (they have a web sight) you will need to turn down some mid 80s B-body (impala) lower ball joints to fit into your stock lower arms. Also mid 80's G-body outer tie rod are needed. no - the 74 upper control arms will not work without changing the frame. You can use your stock 68 upper control arms but it will need about an inch of shims. If you can find a mid 80's B-body cop car, a alot of them had 12" brakes.

Hotchkis also makes upper control arms for the conversion.

Go to the "Suspension" section and you will find a lot of info from people that are trying or have installed the Global West/Hotchkis set up. Quite a few things that you need to consider before jumping into this conversion. Patton
