Hey there, Im preparing out 71 Riv for a new paintjob, and I have some problems getting off the rocker panels, the hood and door edge moldings, the tail light surounding trim on the body (not the parts on the trunk lid) and the front grill surroundings (center part is off already, only left and right part is in place)

Maybe anyone has some tipps for me?

I already removed all screws from the rocker moldings, but they are still in place. Are there any clips or something?

    Thanks

Ok, I already got the doors ready, but all the other parts still need to be removed.

Has anyone an idea where I can get those rubber on the back of the doors?
There are two rubbers on each door.
I would also like to get the rubbers of the hood and the trunk lid too.

    Thanks

I believe the rocker chrome hooks over retainers, if the screws are all out, you can pull up and it should pop loose.

Door Weatherstrip? Check out Smartin's website for sources. Click the Body/Sheet Metal link on the left, then go to the bottom of the page for Rubber/Weatherstripping.

The long crome pice at the back of the hood can be removed by razing the hood remove screws on either side then a block of wood tapped with a hammer against the lower edge should remove it. Tail lights are held on by studs that can be accessed inside the trunk you may have to lower the bumper to get clearance to pull them out then you can take the crom trim off.
the side and top trim for the grill are held on with speed nuts on the back side.
    rubber parts from http://www.restorationspecialties.com
    Good luck

    Thanks guys,
I already have the weatherstriping. There are two rubbers on the rear end of the door that protect the door from bouncing against the body. The same is on the back of the trunk lid. Ill give your websites a try. Thanks!

Ill also try carefully to get the rocker moldings off.

    Thanks

Spray some liquid wax along the top edge to protect against scuffing upon removal.

You have to be very careful during the reassemly to do the same and take the sharp edges off the rocker with a scotch brite pad or the equivalent.

Near the front there is often a fixed bolt that must be removed first before you can move the rocker up for removal from the discs.

If you look under the car you will see the studs that come through the frame for all the mounts. Since you are repainting you might just remove the discs after marking their individual postions. They can be corroded and need individual treatment or even replacement.

Let me know if you can't find those bumpers online, I'm pretty sure I can find them locally.

I already found all bumper I need at www.classicbuick.com :) Thanks for your offer!

I now have problems getting the rear armrests out to lower the window, so I could reach the screws from the rear quater trim...
Will I have to get the whole rear seat out? It seems like theres a something on the back that holds the arm rest in place!

The rearend, the doors and most of the quaters are now disassambled. Rockerpanels are away either! Now the front bumper, the grille and the front emblems will follow :)

    Thanks guys!!

Rear armrests will come out if you can compress the seat back enough to get at the screw thats down low and at the back edge of the arme rest. Totake out the seat back remove the lower seat cushion first, push in at the bottom and lift up at the same time, then youwillsee the seat back is held on by the seat belt bolts good luck getting them out I used 1/2 air tool with a 3/8 reducer for the star socket.
