That is funny. I cant help but think every time some says that genuinely that they cant read the badges written in plain English. I normally reply thanks to encourage them to buy a monte thus preserving the GNs to the true Buick enthusiasts. :TU:

The WH1's are extremely rare, only 463 produced in the designer's series paint scheme. Unless it's stock, who knows what the power output is.

So, did you buy it? I saw the auction ended with no bidders. Contacted the guy and he was firm on his asking price. When I requested and saw the underside photos I was concerned about rust being covered by undercoating and the exhaust itself did not look too healthy.

The BIGGEST difference between a WH1 and GN, of the same model year, is that GN's have SPECIFIC interior and exterior trim: grey and black bucket seats, black and grey center console, specific emblems; exterior paint is only code 19 black; The same model year WH1 has the same spoilers as a GN; and a specific two tone paint: code 19 black with code 84 accent in 1984; code 15 accent in 1985 and 1986 grey accent paint with a specific pin stripe used at the transition. ANY, I repeat ANY, interior for the T-type could be had, blue bench, red split bench, tan buckets, Lear Sieglar cloth buckets only in grey ($595), or tan or grey leather 45/45 seats ($600). Both GN and WH1 had identical engine transmission, rear end, etc.
Basically, any option (other than the Specific GN option WE2)on the GN was available on the WH1
Those Aluminum bumper (VD6; VD7) braces were NOT specific to the GN or WH1; It depended on the options on the car as ordered to conserve weight. My 87 Turbo Limited has them, and It was stripper as far as options, other than what was REQUIRED with the M47 (Regal Limited) / LC2 (turbo engine package/ Y56 ( T-package) : manual windows, manual seats, no power anything other than power antenna!
Another oddity is that you got IRON rear drums if you got the limited slip (posi) G80; If you got the open/ standard rear end you got ALUMINUM rear drums.

i asked for some underside pics, too and got the gas tank and a couple others that did not give me enough info to decide. I did contact him again saying I was interested and wanted to talk outside the auction (i.e. phone) and have not gotten any second reply past the pics.

I do like the car and am interested but if he won't reply.....

    Beamer Suncoupes Rule !!!

The turbo cars are wicked to drive. They can produce some unreal power from a mild manner sounding vehicle.

I had to work to earn respect from my local group with my SunCoupe. They laughed when I said I felt I had a 13 second car with my Stage 1. 2 days at the track later, I was in the 12's and they were somewhat impressed. Fast forward a couple years, and I added an 87 T to my collection that had some nice modifications. A few test rides later, they were quickly impressed. A visit to the track and getting the 10's with a full body car with A/C, CC power everything that all works and getting 20MPG, they were very impressed. Fast forward several years, and I have a 250HP car in the garage that turns into 700HP in 1 1/2 seconds that will get sideways from a 50MPH roll and gets 18MPG with all goodies functional.

    That's a Buick for you...

As mentioned, the power comes on violently in these cars and you better learn the particulars about them. I purposely mentioned that I go from 250 to 700HP in no time... Period !

TexasT Texas, where are you from

I would be concerned with the "dealer installed pop up sunroof". The owners went to the trouble to have the roof stripped and painted. I would have had the hole welded up and refinished and a new headliner. The eighties "sunroof" could have been left in the eighties. Personal preference I guess. Just seems like it would be an issue when you go to sell.

I like either of the intercooler years but if you are just looking for a cruiser an 84-85 car can usually be had for less. Less power, less aftermarket for performance stuff but it is still a great car. I had an 84 that I traded in on the 87 I have now.

As with any acquisition you are usually better off to buy the nicest example rather than having to fix problems on a less expensive example. Nothing is cheap when it comes to cars and it just gets more expensive if you pay others to fix stuff.
