I just picked up an ecm from a '91 6.2l diesel powered Chevy G30 van......serv. no. 16147609. This is for a 4L80e. Question I have...is the harness for the above different than the 5.7l gas engines that came with the 4L80e? I have a '95 G30 van with the 5.7/4L80e and plan to pull the engine/tranny/harness/computer for an older truck. (the van body is quite shot - rust). I'm wondering if I should get the harness from that '91 diesel van to go along with the computer I just picked up? Also, if I were to pickup a '93 or newer truck with the 4L60e, could I swap the tranny & computer for the above '95 gas setup? Lastly, what would the going rate be for one of these diesel computers for the 4L80e? Thanks guys :TU:
GM truck ECMs changed when they went to electric trannies. Basically 1987- 1992 ECMs used different designed PROMs or chips than 1993-1995s. In 1996 the ECMs changed again and need to be reprogramed rather than change a prom. I believe that swapping PROMs matched to the power train will make an ECM work. A recking yard would probably be you best bet for finding out interchangeability. HTH John
