Did all cars have a/c 71-73?

Was there any electras/centurions/lesabres without ac 71-73? I'm after the plate that goes on the firewall that would cover the hole where the a/c stuff sits. If all were a/c cars then I'll go look at home depot instead. Anyone knows about the a/c as an option???

That's a beauty... I'll just keep my eyes open, I'm trying to figure out what would be the best bet? You'd think a low optioned lesabre maybe?

Northern built cars are more apt to have no AC than southern cars..

Hmmm... I guess that's not going to happen at a yard close to me then, if you buy a car without a/c around here, you don't have all the indians in the canoe so to say.

AC was an option in those years, but the majority of cars came with it. My guess is about 95%. And the northern cars most likely to be ordered without AC were subject to salt, and probably rusted away first. If you look at the assembly manuals offered as reprints, you can see the differences on the firewall between AC and non Ac cars. It's doubtful that anyone will make a blockoff plate for the big cars. The non AC heaterbox might use the same holes as the AC box.

Here's a picture of my 74 LeSabre without air. I never compared my LeSabre and my 75 Electra to see the difference between A/C and non A/C cars but I know there are many differences between them.

The 71-76 non A/C cars have 2 fake A/C outlets and the center outlets are not connected to the heater system, they are just vents connected to a cable under the dash. There are also floor vents with cables in the kick panels.

60's Rivs are different from 70's cars but I converted my 67 Riviera from non-A/C to factory manual A/C a few years ago and I didn't have to cut any additionnal holes in the firewall. In fact, I had to block one for the fresh air vents. On 67 Rivs with heater only, one of the two vent positions bypassed the heater core for cool air as there is no water valve in cars without A/C.
The heater and A/C boxes had different mounting locations on the firewall but the holes for the screws to install them were already drilled (not just punched like those for other options) and filled with sealer.

I just found one for sale yesterday locally. It was a 73 LeSabre without air. Car has some rust around rear wheels and vinyl top is gone. But, it is a one owner with 67,000 miles. Green on greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen. $700 gets it or maybe a little less.

Now, that's too much to pay for a air cond. block off plate!

Well, it's good to hear thery're out there... The more junk that leaves the engine bay, the easier it is to focus in on the stuff that matters.. :puzzled:
