Did a rebuild over break- got a question

I bought a rebuild kit for the q-jet while I was on break for Christmas for 7 days. I was looking for something to do while I was out at my mother-in-law's house. :boring:

After tearing in to the carb, I'm really suprised the car ran at all. I mean this thing was in really bad shape. The rebuild went great but my rear choke pull-off doesn't work. I ordered a new one and when I got it, it looks like the front choke pull-off and doesn't fit the back side. So my question is: Do I really need the rear vacuum pull-off? I'm going to take this part back to see if they can match me up with the right one but I was just wondering if I should even mess with it.

I posted before and after pics.

Wow, what a difference driving to work today. I never thought a simple stock rebuild could make the car run so good. I don't want to jinks myself though. I haven't tried the secondaries yet.

I returned the pull-off to the parts store and plugged the port. I'd still like to know if it's a big deal that I took it off or if I really need it.

To answer your question, the secondary pull off is not essential. It was used to slightly lean mixtures during warm up, as the air cleaner warmed up. The air cleaner, as you know, used the incoming air from the exhaust to warm it, allowing improved distribution, and leaner mixtures during warm up. The secondary pull off, which was controlled via the temperature controlled vacuum switch on the air cleaner, allowed slightly leaner mixtures by pulling the choke wider as the air cleaner warmed up. It is not essential, however, there may be a slight improvement in mileage if it is used correctly. Ray
